Lowther game fair

I have been going to "THE" Lowther show for over 25 years, often for all 3 days & enjoyed every visit. Then it came to an end . When it re-started, run by countryman fairs, we went back on the first saturday on the first year and were bitterly dissapointed by the change, and lack of what there was on offer.

Heard it was a bit better last year.

This year the carriage driving is back, so the show may get some of it's magic back....

I am going to give it another try this year & hope that George Bowman Jnr's input into the show will help. The days when his dad & HRH Philip competed, Entwistles were on the clay ground & all the trade, craft & food stands were in attendance still stay in my mind. I will never, ever, forget the day in the main arena, just before the hunting ban, when after the parade of hounds a huntsman recounted "D'ye ken John Peel" in verse. I was so overcome with the emotions of the day and the changes to our way life that I, with many others wept.

Lets hope it will be a good year for the show... maybe see some of you there :good:

I was at the Lowther show back in the days when we showed our working terriers all over the north of England and Thanks to Countrymans fairs and their excellent team it is coming back to its former Glory. I will be on the SACS stand and may have some young local volunteers on the stand. Lowther is well worth a visit the coursing crew do the terrier and lurcher show and racing drop by the stand for a chat :good:

I went prior to its demise and have been both years since its return, and shall be there again this year. It's not a massive show but I've enjoyed my visits up, will be there one of the days this year too, hopefully bump into a few people from near the R Wyre.

  • 2 weeks later...

Last year we on the SACS stand had two Excellent young men on the stand helping us out Hagen & Jake :friends: but they've been headhunted back on to the Daystate stand and the Penrith and district Red Squirrel Group stand. Great lads both of them. This year if any of our junior members that are attending the show contact me here and if you fancy helping on the stand for a couple of hours we will give you a complimentry ticket in to the fair and make sure you don't die of hunger or thirst while on the stand :ninja: . This offer is available on both days and is available to full members B) as well but on a strictly first come first served basis. :yahoo:
