just been reading the sporting shooter

and have been reading about the heavy handed armed police

they have been going out and treating shooters like me and you like criminals

its a sad country this is when a trained swat team cant tell the

difference from a man enjoying a days sport in the countryside

from a terrorist

i ask you is this what its coming to???

cheers kirky :angry::no: :(

Well its a tough one..

When the police do get a call like this they have no choice but to treat it very seriously.

If you are worried about getting caught out, give your local police station a quick call and let them know your out shooting. This will prevent being placed face down in the mud while they work out whats really going on.

No offence, but im glad the police are doing their job, because it COULD be something dodgey going on..

That article worried me quite a lot, especailly when someone tried to unload a rifle to make it safe and was almost shot, a loaded gun thrown on the ground could fire if the trigger was hit with a twig or stick, possibly blowing the officers or your own leg off, i think it is unbelieveable :( ;)

Diggory Hadoke was shooting rats after dark in a college that he works at, he informed the police, they still turned up, and said that his air rifle looked like a centrefire and all this went on his file even though he was perfectly within the law

im not telling the police when im going out shooting its none of there pigin business

if i have permision and shooting safely they have no right to come into the middle of a field and point loaded rifles at me.

they them selfs should not be pointing a loaded guns at me when im doing nowt wrong or at anyone for that matter

its a total disgrase and shows a lack of under standing for the way of life in the coutryside and yes youve gessed it it anoys me

Hmm I should buy a mag or two to keep up

Kirky, its nice to see your still as stuborn as usual

I know its not their business and you should be able to enjoy your sport, but its usually when some silly anti or rambler rings in to say theres a dangerous looking chap with a 'high power' rifle.. they have to act

But yes, it should be common sense somone out in the middle of the country with a rifle and hunting camo obviously has a good genuine reason to be there.. its not like they are walking down town with it

As far as I know the whole point in ringing in is to prevent this from happening. Before the SWAT chaps go out, details will be confirmed with the areas police for such matters.

Yes its a pain, and no I dont like complications with the UK law as much as anyone here, but if you hunt in an area with possible passers who will dob you in with the law for nothing, it may be worth it! it only take a couple of minutes, and its peace of mind. I know several people who call in for lamping, or shooting on land with public foot paths.

its all gone a bit loopy in the uk they tell you if you carry a knife you will get charged and fined

why if you live in the country you often need a knife for several things like cutting open bales

pairing sheeps feet etc so as i see it because some yobs go around stabbing folk all us law abiding

people cant have knifes well i say punish the bad folk not us inocent people for a change

tony blair and his muppets can **** off and the sooner they go the better

and its about time they brought back hunting a redoot the foxes aboot here as am sick o tryin tae shoot em!!!!

oops fell off soap box :angry:

Hunter,

I am afraid I agree with Mark.

I used to phone the coppers when I shot an allotment. That was fine never had them turn up. But got phoned twice at very unsociable hours. Once when the local yacht club were firing off all their out of date flares, and once when some other 'well meaning' citizen had reported a gun shot in the area.

Now I am sorry but if they cannot be ***** to find out whether a noise is coming from a yacht club or an allotment (10 miles apart) without phoning me at 11:30pm on a saturday night then I am sure as hell not telling them when I go shooting. If they want to waste their time coming out to me when I am stalking then all well and good, I am always acting within the law so I don't see a problem.

Statistically I am more likely to get shot by one of their trigger happy ARU's for either: Walking home from the pub, getting on an underground train, getting out of bed naked to see who has just kicked my door in... <insert countless other innocent activities doing which people have been slain by an ARU>
