the pelt man
Just got back from a few days up at Pakefield vistiting Ma & Pa. Had a go at Fishing off Pakefield Beach for Cod, Two hook rig , 6oz lead with whole Squid as bate, £1.80 for a box of about dozen squid, much better value than the cost of worm IMHO. Well the weather has been Good for Fishing if you could get the Bate to stay out there but with a very strong cross wind & big waves everything was being thrown out the Sea as quick as you could lob it out there. Anyway's this one was the best of the fish i caught which was hooked 15-20 Mins after my first cast of the first Trip. Boiled the Head up for lunch the next day then had the rest for Tea. You can't beat fresh Cod. I'm going to take a trip back at Christmas for an all nighter if my mate can get away from the wife for a while. Maybe a few of us could set a date & make a comp out of it, throw in £20 each winner takes all. What do you think ? Question: when would you say a Codling becomes a COD. Would you agree anything over 5lb's PELTMAN

Catamong
Pelt Man, A nice fish, I used to be a regular winter visitor to Corton, Dengemarsh and Dungeness beaches back in the early 80's, had a few good nights but gave it up when my clay shooting became pretty serious. I found it was often a lot of effort for very little reward, as Cod numbers were then in decline. That was a hell of a hangover, judging by the state of your eyes..!! the pelt man
Cat I know where you are coming from BUT I must say i much prefer to sink my teeth into the odd COD than a few hundred CLAYS :( As for the EYES it's just the sheer weight of the fish PELTMAN
Cranfield
Nice fish and they do taste goooooood when fresh. I have always thought that a fish over 5lbs was a COD, anything less was a CODLING. There are quite a few codling coming from the beaches from Deal to Dungeness at the moment, along with some nice sized whiting and the odd "nuisance" 3lb bass. :(

P03
I've always been told a Codling becomes a Cod at 7lbs but I've never seen it written down. Maybe it's down to the captor to decide in which case all of mine are COD
