Fly tipping

Our local council make a big thing about the % of waste they recycle and collect all the garden waste every fortnight using separate vehicles.

Does it all go to be shredded or into a huge compost heap and be reused in the towns parks and gardens?

Nope - it all goes straight down the landfill

The only waste is our money and all this ******** is to achieve ' targets'

The green waste in Cambridgeshire gets composted and sold to farmers by the trailer load as soil enrichment.

However, the place which deal with this stuff keeps suffering from fires due to the heat caused by the composting process and very often i'll drive past on the A14 with huggggggggggggge fires raging! Other times the A14 has to be closed due to the wind blowing smoke onto the dual carriageway which causes mayhem.

I work for the local council and they had the bright idea of charging people for what was the once free collection of waste from building work or bulky items, the fly tipping increased tenfold and after just a year the charge was done away with and now hardly any fly tipping its usually just fridges and tyres on the odd occasion which get dumped as these have to be sent to specialist recycling places and still cost, the best one was a yard next to ours that collected tyres...... One day we saw a van and trailer being loaded up with tyres. Next morning there was a job sheet waiting large pile of tyres dumped at the beach overnight it was two tractor/trailer loads to remove them with the final tally being 700 odd tyres and surprise surprise this lads yard was empty

well its clear to me if fly tipping cases keep escalating the real villains the council not that i like the scum that do it but the council make it possible for their iffy rubbish clearance businesses to profit at tax payers expence by making legitimate tipping unaffordable.

Most of the recycling goes into landfill anyway so what's the point of sorting it out

Oh how very true.

My wife's boss is very good friends with a guy that was until recently a director in a national recycling co, and he confirmed exactly this. Certain materials are taken out for incineration fuel and the rest is dumped.

I've also seen 'regular' black bag rubbish being thrown into my local recycling truck many a-time.....

Is that actually a problem though? Councils have a big bee in their bonnet about trade waste but its all just waste at the end of the day. Our local convenience store generates a lot of cardboard waste and he gets charged a fortune to have it taken away. Its the likes of me that ultimately ends up paying for it one way or another.

We used to see him taking it to the dump himself, seats down in the family car, but presumably that has been stopped now. He's just a one man band not some big multinational

Tell him to store it up and sell it, we do......... & polythene

One of my mate was telling me the other week he took his motor with a trailer ( well loaded in the motor as well as the trailer ) on the back to the local tip.

They would not let him in with the trailer on unless he paid but could go in free with the motor, so he unhooked the trailer near the entrance went in and emptied the motor then went back to the trailer and loaded the motor up

and took that in. 4 trips and all empty, so bloody stupid they were happy to let him park the trailer and transfer the rubbish into his motor and then take it in..

TYpical council jobsworths

The last eejit to fly tip a load by our driveway(black bags full of household waste) before i moved from my old house had left letters with thier name and address on, that combined with my seeing the car gave me enough evidence to be sure it was them so i took the bags back to them and emptied them onto thier front garden, most enjoyable!

I cant stand litterers, theres just no excuse
