fieldwanderer
Well, my project isn't exactly going to plan I bought the rifle and had it sent straight to border barrels, was told it's a 12 week turnaround at the moment as they're very busy. I figured that's reasonable and resigned myself to the wait. Well, I had a call yesterday to say they couldn't do it quite how I'd asked but not too much of a problem, so I asked how long it'd be - 12 weeks they've had it for 7 weeks and haven't even done the paperwork! Admittedly they say they've been busy and had administration problems but that doesn't help me much I've still not signed anything and no work has taken place so I'm considering sending it elsewhere but I'm struggling to find many places that re-barrel rifles, hence the question. Anyone know anywhere who can do me a stainless barrel to my spec' for £630(ish) or less, make a good job of it and have it done quicker than 12 weeks? casts_by_fly
you're close enough that I'd give Steve Kershaw a ring. He's in Howden and one of the best. rick
al4x
someone was on here looking for a suitable donor action, flog it to them and buy yourself a decent factory rifle, you'll be out and shooting it in a week in time for harvest foxes
fieldwanderer
Thanks guys, I tried steve kershaw yesterday and, to be honest, the response wasn't particularly helpful; he has a barrel he can fit which isn't the shape or twist I want and he wants £700 for the pleasure I'm not too bothered what the barrel is as long as it's not a sack o' ****, but taking from the start of June to the end of October to re-barrel a rifle seems a bit poor to me Al4x, really - I'm sorely tempted but if I'd wanted a factory rifle, I'd've bought one in the first place. I'll do some ringing around the places mentioned, thanks chaps
fieldwanderer
Hmmm, no-one's really doing any better - price wise, border all in (archer barrel) is £630, no-one else has quoted less than £700 and time frame's about the same. So, I'll leave it as it is. Shame Border barrels lost 7 weeks somehow - if it had been 12 weeks from when I was first told that, I'd only have a few weeks left to wait oh well, sighting in on frozen ground's a howl, right? at least the barrel will cool quicker. Thanks for the suggestions guys
activeviii
You could try Steve Bower http://www.specialistrifleservices.co.uk/ A friend had a rem 700 rebarreled, only took 18 months.
Dougy
To be honest I would leave it with Lee at Border. You will get back a good rifle , they have been honest with you and kept you informed of an obvious issue that they would not of anticipated. Steve Kershaw is good as is Dave I have hade a rifle re-barreled by each and both shoot well beyond my capabilities. One I would not ever reccomend is Brock and B.S.. They or should I say he had 2 rifles for 4 month's and not even touched them, but they were at one time at the proof house Work that one out. As I said leave it with Border they will do there very best

fieldwanderer
Thanks again everyone I tried Steve kershaw the other day, From what he said; he can beat the time but not the price - and that would be for the barrel he has in stock which is nothing like what I want. That's nothing against him, it's just not what I'm looking for at the moment. I've got a couple of places to speak to today but if they can't do any better it'll have to stay where it is. fieldwanderer
Did mine myself as a engineer nothing was too hard Deershooter I did a bit of lathe work at college and really would have given this a shot but I don't have access to a lathe or tooling and it was a while ago so maybe it's not such a bad thing
