Well all but 2 of my fields have been cut over the last 5 days normally see 200 - 300 birds on them but not seen anything but the odd 1, flight lines have gone the lot.

Any suggestions? been waiting all year for the harvest I'm gutted.

Failing that does anyone have a day out in the wiltshire area this week to ease my pain?

They have cut all the rape and wheat just got 1 field left with strangley barley which is late being cut so hopefully in the next day or 2.

To say i'm gutted is an understatement.

Been looking around the local area to see if they are on other fields but its like a ghost town.

Seems very very weird/starnge

Keep looking, they are probably spread over all the fields that have been harvested.

As the Farmer starts discing them in the birds get more concentrated, you will start to see them more then.

In my area the best stubbles seem to always be the wheat and thats a couple of weeks off.

Have patience. Pigeons sometimes take a while to get onto stubble especially as there is so much about at the moment.

Im shooting some of barley stubble but probaly having just as much luck at the moment on the muck heaps, but as above it will come good.

Stubbles are not all they are made out to be if no grain is lost, modern combines are too good. Try finding grain left behind - very little usually.

If there's any grain lost......

They've been cutting wheat for a week up here - no interest!! Strangely, a rough discing seems to help sometimes. Is this because the chaff cutters cover most lost grain (Pigeons can't/don't scratch) and a roughing up actually exposes more food for them????
