aris
My house backs against woodland. A muntjack somehow made its way into my garden and is munching on my vegetable patch. So the question is - hypothetically - where would I stand legally? I'm thinking i'm good - as long as I have AAA or bigger shot - and it all stays within my property. Of course i'd never do it - my wife would not approve - i'd be on nookie rations for the rest of my life
camokid
i personally think shotguns and deer a i big no no.. but in the law i think its a gray area and i red in a mag that shotguns could be used
Dunkield
Hypothetically - get someone else to shoot it.
norfolk dumpling
I believe this is the only deer you can shoot with pellets but they are supposed to be AAA - check by Googling game laws.
aris
I agree, it is a bit grey - but looking at the law, i'm thinking i'd be OK - hypothetically of course: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1991/54/section/7 Of course, all sorts of other laws come into play here - noise, distress to neighbours etc.. I'm not sure how effective suppressors are on 12ga shotguns.
al4x
I've shot them driven in a back garden many moons ago, ok it was 100 acres of back garden but the principle is the same. What I will say is heavy shot does poleaxe them no messing as long as you put it in the right place. Would I do it again well it depends on the situation but probably if the need arose but I would try with the rifle first.
stubby
forget all that, just get the car in the back garden and run it over, she cant moan at you then, lol

aris
My back fence is 6ft - but I suppose they could have come over a neighbours back fence.
CharlieT
Although technically legal for you to shoot it with a 12 bore and AAA or above, in a small suburban garden using a shotgun might not be the best solution. The simplest way is to move a bit of fence and let it out and then make your garden deerproof.
aris
It appears to have made its own way out - presumably the same mysterious way it came in.

numpty
As a past game dealer I have seen the results of miss placed shotgun pellets after a beast has been legaly shot by a rifle, not pretty and very distressing. Would you shoot your dog in this manner if you needed to put him down?
huffhuff
As a past game dealer I have seen the results of miss placed shotgun pellets after a beast has been legaly shot by a rifle, not pretty and very distressing. Would you shoot your dog in this manner if you needed to put him down? I know people that have shot their own dog in exactly this manner (but maybe not so misplaced). Not sure if I could do it myself, but people do. Edited August 15, 2013 by huffhuff

al4x
I'd suggest very few misplaced shotgun shots on muntjac will be with AAA's or larger. I shot one last year with a mix of 6's and bb's under its skin, didn't seem to have affected it much

karpman
AAA's at sub 20 yards would kill most things. It's not just folks with shotguns that misplace shots either, there was a pic on here the other day of a dear that's jaw was hanging off from such a shot. I agree that the best thing would be let it run on. Karpman
