Dusted off the Archer

Went out rabbit shooting this afternoon with my .22 and had such a good time, only 20 or so rabbits, but i was on fire.Head shooting them out to 90yds,that i thought.. "my luck's in,bound to get a Fox tonight" :)

So after a sarnie and waiting for it to get dark,i swapped rifles, batteries into the NV and picked up the Fox-Pro.

1st stop,up onto the bales..only Hares to be seen :/

2nd stop, sheep just been put into field

What was this luck i was on about

Undeterred i tried the other side of the shoot.Caller placed onto the hook,Jimny driven 100yds away, rifle rest onto the window and i settle in.

5mins is allowed for it to quieten down then i set a Rabbit squeal away.Within another 5mins i pick out the unmistakable shape of a young Fox hung up about 60yds from the Fox-pro. NV attached and it's nowhere to be seen, thought it looked edgy.I swap to a mouse squeak..no joy, hmmm think, think aha-i'll try a cub call.

Set the call away, put down the remote, pick up the NV and see a pair of eyes bounding out of the wood to the caller.

Again i attach the Archer and this time i find the Fox.It's moving away from the call but can't take it's eyes off it,turning to look after every 2 paces.By now i'm ready, and when Foxy stops again,i squeeze the trigger and watch him drop.

The set-up and Fox

After trying various other calls for about 30mins,i try the cub call again.I spy a Fox moving across the field behind me.It's looking towards the sounds but not sure so i swap to a rabbit call. This turns it and it starts towards the caller before changing it's mind and dissapears over the hill..ah well, can't win em all

well planned and shot jeff, ime after trying some kind of fox caller my self, how do you seriously rate the fox pro.also how much are they cheers simon

I love my Fox-Pro but in all honesty it's just like any other caller. When it works it's great but there has been times when we could see a Fox and it just wouldn't budge...then a lip squeak or hand caller has had them running in.

It has it's uses in that i often leave it playing with a Mouse squeak. You'd be surprised how many times this will work after 30-40mins or even longer, basically when you would have given up and moved on.

Much easier to push a button than keep blowing on a hand call.

Real beauty of it is the remote, can put the caller away from me to keep the Fox's concentration in another direction.

Mine will take 200 different calls and cost me £500 direct from Fox-Pro in USA.

It's the FX5 but new models are out now with fantastic features on them.Check out their website http://www.gofoxpro.com/site/
