Dazza9t9
Hey all I have just been gifted a webley excel .22 from my grandad. He was given it from my great uncle who passed away a few years ago. He was a head game keeper on a prestigious estate. The rifle looks in great condition and has a small scope on it. I have not shot a pellet through it yet but cocked it and fired it empty and it feels solid. I was initially looking for a PCP to shoot rabbits on my land where my shot gun is too much of a gun, and close to buildings. However I've been gifted excel for free What can people tell me about the excel? Is it worth getting a new scope? (I know nothing about scopes) Id necessary ill look for a second hand one but what type of magnification would I need? Would it be worth buying a silencer for it too? Any ideas where from?? Am I right I should see a clean kill at around 25 to 30 yards? Pretty new to shooting to any help would be great.
demonwolf444
First things first generally don't shoot an airgun empty, for most airguns its not particularly good for the seals. I dont know anything about the Excel though.
Underdog
The excell is a very good airgun. Please dont shoot it empty.....you will damage it. U.
Dazza9t9
I won't shoot it empty, I had no choice at the time and it was just the once. It will not happen again
Underdog
Yeah...phuematics its fine but springers no. The pellet it self allows a cushion of air that itself takes some shock away from the spring. Without that cushion shock can snap or collaspe the spring. Dont ask how I know! :-)
Dazza9t9
In guessing learnt the hard way? So the excel, is it worth spending a not of money on, silencer better scope etc? Like I said it will be used for rabbits where I cannot use my shot gun
washerboy
Great guns, enjoyed mine more then my lightning that I had at the same time.better trigger, lighter .
team tractor
I've owned 2 . I've killed so much with them both . Don't bother with a silencer as their a waste of time on springers. Buy decent mounts and a nice scope which will make that gun a capable little bunny basher out to 40 yards . The last thing I shot with mine was a 50 yard pigeon lol before I sold it . Wish I'd kept
Dazza9t9
Thanks for all the comments. Been great. I will forget the silencer and look into a scope
Fisheruk
Try JS Ramsbottom for scopes. Their own brand are perfectly good enough for your rifle. Remember it's accuracy that kills. The limitation on your accuracy is likely to be you not the weapon or the sight. I remember a saying from years ago. “That was a lucky shot! Yeah funny that - the more I practice the luckier I become.” enjoy.
Dazza9t9
What magnification would you recommend for my rifle?
moorvale55
Try a Hawke 3x9x50 scope, a good picture and it won't break the bank.
Fisheruk
Yep, 3-9 is plenty. Worth getting one which is either set for paralex for airgun range or one which is PX adjustable. Keep it as light as possible.
