The perfect wind.

The choice today was between two fields on the same farm, one was a scuffed up barley stubble, the other a rape stubble. The barley stubble had more birds on it but less of a line in and with the distinct disadvantages of having to look into the sun with the wind blowing into the hide in the position I considered to be the best for the field. So the rape stubble it was with the sun and wind coming from behind.

The wind was strong and just watching pigeons deal with it was an education in itself. Those coming straight at the hide from a mile away or more kept very low and sometimes it was difficult to pick them out against the background. Those that came from either side described very large arcs which took them all the way across the field before they headed for the decoys. They did on the whole decoy very well.

I started at 1pm and finished at 3:30 (duty called) and I picked 65. This was a very enjoyable afternoon.
