strangford wildfowler
Was out this morning for my first ever flight at ducks which turned into geese flighting!! The story goes like this me and my dad where tuck into a hedge close to the foreshore but it was a rapeseed field which was cut. anyway we missed a couple mallard and teal then it went quite for an hour so I went to my bag a got a couple pigeon deeks out put them out then we heard a skeen of about 250-300 greylag so I quickly said to my dad and we loaded up with the heavy cases (always carry a couple) when the geese came over it was amazing and we had 5 shots for nothing we completly missed because we where so amazed. But all in all it was an amazing experience even when we didn't get anything!! Love wildfowling!!!!!!??!

fenboy
Hard luck , geese are travelling much quicker than it seems so you need to give more lead than you perhaps think. Most of us miss them now and again , I even missed one once
Penelope
I have heard quoted, 8ft for every wing beat. Those Greys will have been moving faster than a teal, but look so much slower due to their size. strangford wildfowler
Think I was more excited and I wasn't concentrating properly! Was my first time out will get them next time but I will always remember my first pop at them, as my dad says plenty of air around them :-) Thanks for the kind comments, happy fowling. motty
I was inland with the 10 this morning. I was messing about with Gopro, about to film myself shooting a triple of greys. I thought the geese (between 50 and 100 of them) were carrying on across the field when they suddenly turned and flew straight over me. By the time i had finished pishing about with the camera they were directly overhead. I clean missed with the first barrel and had a misfire (duff primer) with the second pull of the trigger. My only chance wasted and all my own fault. Lesson learned!

All the best strangford wildfowler. Same thing happened to me when I had my first chance at geese only a few seasons ago, I was so excited I totally missed the first few chances I had!! I just forgot everything I knew about shooting and fluffed it!! Since then I have never looked back and am now a wildfowler for life probably/hopefully. I'm sure another chance will come along for you soon enough, gland you enjoyed it and good luck next time!

andrewluke
wildfowling is a sport that the saying "it's the taking part that counts" is definately appropriate, andrew

All the best strangford wildfowler. Goose fever! The same thing happened to me last year when shooting the wash, three greys came over at about twenty yards up straight above me and i missed with both shots. I think id have had more chance if i turned the gun round and tried to club them out of the sky!
