oxfordfowler Posted September 4, 2013 Report Share Posted September 4, 2013 I was granted my first FAC (HMR17) 9 months ago. Had to accept a mentor restriction. Time to have the mentoring restriction removed. So I posted of my certificate and a letter from my mentor on Thursday 29 Aug which arrived at TV HQ on Friday 30th. Today my new licence arrived in the post with the mentor restriction removed . Allowed out on my own - happy days. Thank You Thames Valley. Puts too much responsibility on the mentor who is not a registered trainer/examiner. System needs sorting out before there is some kind of incident. David BASC Posted September 4, 2013 Report Share Posted September 4, 2013 Yes , the latest Home Office guidance makes it clear, the intention is to keep additional conditions to a minimim. Some forces seemed to just about have mentoring as a standard condition ie some forces have been a bit 'over keen' on mentoring! It's the same as if you are teaching someone to drive in their own car. You would not be responsible if that person decided to take the car out on his/her own. I once mentored a person, and he admitted to me that he had taken his rifle out on the farm on his own. I was tempted to report him to the police, but decided against it.
