I just got back from a couple of days on the River Kennet between Newbury and Hungerford. 20 years ago I knew the 2 big shooting estates there well (and still know one owner but he will be 82 shortly) but they were all very disappointing overgrown, walls crumbling, generally shabby. People use to be proud and keep the area in fantastic condition from the road and private tracks.

I stayed in the Elcot Manor hotel which as a bit special in its day but now it was a disappointment, tired, poorly kept and out of touch with what it could be.

Lots of my old friends from there have departed this world.

One of the best looking girls I ever know (and nicest) who was way out of my league so did not bother to ...... anyway, she never married and is still available!

my lovely old local, the Dundas Arms is now a GastroPub and not for the locals.

Another good friend lost the use of her legs after cancer treatment killed the nerves in her legs.

I've come back feeling a bit depressed about how the years have gone by with them and that (formerly) lovely part of the country.

Perhaps I am a grumpy old man but boy, do I feel old now..... I'll get over it tomorrow (hopefully)

Edit:

What is even more worrying, I've been feeling all nostalgic about series landrovers ....... now that is real old age creeping in

I am into my seventh decade and I love dancing about like a twenty year old. At my 60th last year when my favourite tunes came on I just took over the dance floor and most people just gaped at the sight. There are some draw backs and I would rather be twenty again but life is for living so I try my best to give it a real go.

The most important thing is to keep active I do not mean going to the jim or running but do some walking ride a bike dig the garden and most of all do not get to fat if you do that then age is not important if the kids say that you should not be doing something it dose not matter as long as you can do it well if you are strugling to keep up then stop as you will only make yourself look stupide.
