kiffy
well i broke my wildfowling virginity this morning... and like a good cherry popping i loved every single second left the house at 2.30 this morning for the three and a bit hour drive from the rhondda to the mawdach estuary.. we had a clear run up, walked in and set up by 6.30am. i was sitting there bubbling with excitement, way to much really for a 43 year old! we waited with very little to show then three quarters of an hour after first light a huge flock of teal appeared from no where.. either tha tor we where to busy talking to notice their approach. my mate kev spotted them first and got straight on them dropping three with two shots, by the time i realised and got on them i dropped one, still chuffed my first duck a lovely teal.. seconds later another one popped his head up and kev got him. we sat there for what seemed like an age with with the wind battering us and kevs hide and with kev saying this was full of malard last saturday and been as we hadnt seen one, geese.. as he had dropped a couple in the same spot last week when by the side of the hide a fish popped his head out of the water... heres where it was... kev looked at me as it was on my side and said laughing you should have shot it... now i dont know if its legal to use a 12 bore on fish.. but in my overexcited state when he popped up again i stood up and shot it... he was about a foot under water by the time i got up and aimed and he instantly floated to the top.. not a pellet mark on him, i know water has that effect on bullets but i was supprised.. im thinking maybe a shock wave caused by the shot and wad hitting the water just above him did it... either way we had a lovely bass or at least kev told me it was as all fish look the same to me! heres kev retrieving it whith his coffee ion the other hand... and he didnt spill a drop after another long wait a few geese came by and a pair dropped right in on the decoys, unfortunatly just out of range of a shot then a small group of geese hit the other side of the estuary and would not come in to the call so kev went over for a look.. you cant really see him but hes right over the other side when he got there the geese lifted and came around just to the side of me so i dropped in the hide and as they came in to land leaned over to my left and shot and missed... then as they went over infront another shot and one dropped.. yes the big kid kicked in again with a huge shout of YES!!!!! he hit the water with an almight bang as kev ran back not to retrieve it.. as he got back on shore a few more came over and we both hit one so around 10.30am we decided to call it quits as five teal, one graylag and two canads where more than enough to lug back to the car and heres the best photo of the day... my first goose and first duck ever! goose number two isnt there as kev had prepped that one for me so i knew how to then do them myself... another three and a bit hour trip home with just a stop on top of brecon beacons for a bacon and egg roll (didnt help my diet) and home well before 3... what a day.. one i wont forget.. my total was one teal, one graylag, one canada and one bass Edited September 28, 2013 by kiffy

JDog
I can feel your excitement. A good report. The bass will have been stunned, not killed, by the shock blast.

TIGHTCHOKE
Nice write up Lord Kiffington! Shooting fish is perfectly legal, just don't do what a chap I used to work with did. When he was younger (many years ago) he took his Fathers side by side 12 bore and shot a trout. The ONLY problem was that he put the muzzle an inch in to the water! Result, a gun with a trumpet shaped end to the barrel and an interesting chat with his Father! I would think the bass was killed or stunned by the massive shock wave the pellets made in the water. Water being virtually uncompressable transfers shock very effectively.
