Rcdavison1984
Morning guys Sorry if this sounds like a daft question, but its coming from a complete novice. Im on the look out for a semi-auto for use on rough shooting and wildflowing and possibly the clays depending if and when i get my o&u. My question is whats the standard barrel length to go for? ive seen them ranging from 24-32" Thanks in advance rcdavison1984
bostonmick
I don't think there is a standard length for barrel it depends on what you are comfortable with.as a general rule a 28 inch semi auto is the same overall length as a 30 inch o/u and another thing to bear in mind from a storage point a 30inch auto maybe to long to store in a standard cabinet without breaking it down I had to buy a extra long cabinet to put my grandsons auto in as I like to keep my guns assembled in store.but just try a few and see what you feel suits you best Edited October 7, 2013 by bostonmick
thepasty
I shoot a 25.5 barrel, before that a 24 and also shoot my brothers guns with all different lengths of barrel and if I'm honest I cant tell the difference, which is why I went short with my current gun, makes it easier in the rough/hide etc.
Salop Matt
I shoot a 28" barreked Benelli M2 but witht he addtional length it does feel a long gun. I would go for a 26" barrel if i were you as it will still be quite long. ATB Matt
Danoi99
My mates semi has 30 inch barrels...........it feels a tad nose heavy in my opinion !! I agree with the post above: 26" is a good size for an all-round gun !! My Side by Side has 26" barrels...............it feels tiny.............but it's a good quick gun !! rangey
i always prefer a long barrel om my semis and get on great with a 30" maxus.no problem in a hide as you dont need to break it to load.
oscarsdad
My Maxus is 30" - great to shoot...pain to put in the cabinet as you have to break it down.
throdgrain
I've shot and owned loads of pumps and semi autos, and in the end I'd say a shorter barrel is best, due to the added length of the receiver. Both my Remington pump and semi are 26". Receivers are different lengths though, my old Benelli Supernova was 24" barrel, but due to the extra long receiver it was actually the same length overall as my Remington 870. GingerCat
My Beretta is 28 inch and considerably longer than my 28 in lanber o/u. I woukdnt go bigger, try some and see what suits you.
