scolopax
I always ask myself what am I going to do with them all ?? When we go on our annual wildfowling trip to Scotland if we have a good start and have a few hung in the shed we tend to switch over to shooting the smaller bays and inlets for ducks. Most geese I have ever take home from a weeks fowling was 8 geese but could have shot many more if I had kept at them. When local in a similar fashion if I already have three or four in the shed I may only shoot one or two more if the opportunity arises on the next flight and try to concentrate on the 'duck' marshes. .philmypower.
Where I live there is thousands of Canada's. If I'm asked to shoot as pest control then I will shoot as many I can get to come in. None go to waste. But if I just pop out on an evening or morning flight then no more than 4 as I have to carry them. But it also depends how much room I have in the freezer. If I Allready have some then I will just take a few duck and sit back & enjoy the flight.
wildfowler.250
4 for me, ill walk off after that. I bumped into a guy one morning last year. He told me he had a good day a few morning earlier, 27 he took. When I asked him what he did with 27 geese, he said he chopped them up and fed them to the dog. I dunno about everyone else, but I found that sickening. Far too many. Only consolation is that they aren't getting left in a ditch but that's hardly a healthy long term diet for a dog either. samyw
Only shoot four on marsh but over decoys on stubble would never shoot more than ten
RossEM
Anyone should be happy with 2 - carrying more becomes right uncomfortable

Klammer
After shooting 4 pinks on an evening flight last year, and having to carry them back the 2.5 miles to my car from the edge of the mud, i will not shoot anymore than 3 from now on. If you shoot them, you should carry them back.
Penelope
4 geese for me of any or all species combined. I don't have a personal limit on duck, but I have never shot more than 22 to my gun and that was a lot more than ever before and something of a red letter flight (inland (just) over a fed creek on reclaimed fresh marsh. Previously to that my biggest bag was 18 (same place as above) and again far and above what I would usually shoot and have shot.
JDog
I have not shot geese for a while and I doubt whether I will get the opportunity again but when I did I had a self-imposed bag limit of 4. Many times whilst shooting ducks coming into a flight pond have I finished shooting long before other guns have finished and long before the actual flight has finished. Never have I shot more than 10 to my own gun.
Pole Star
Lots of good comments here & if you chaps came up here to shoot we would not have to hear about goose dumping stories in the local press giving wildfowing & goose shooting a bad name . Geese here are a problem at times & some locals do shoot a lot but they are mostly farming connected shooters so to them its goose control but Orkney has is getting more than its fair share of the small w"><y numbers boys coming here & always hoping for more ! . If I wanted I could probably shoot more than most of you posting here but what am I going to do with them ? so I just shoot what I need & if my field is plastered in them then I just walk out a fire a shot to put them off . Nice to see the sensible comments so far & I hope you all have a good season . Edited October 14, 2013 by Pole Star
jamesneale89
4 is my limit as you've got to consider the walk back aswell, I had an evening flight last week at lindisfarne and I was out on the flats and shot 2 left n rights at the first to small groups that came over, I could of easily shot 10+ pinks in that flight but once I bagged 4 (2 greys and 2 pinks)I just sat back with my camera and filmed the rest of the geese coming over me at 25-30 yards , even the walk back to the car with 4 geese and a 2 mile walk across the mud was hard enough , even when I got back to the car park I got a mouthful of other fowlers that blanked that evening and they were saying 4 is unacceptable! I just ignored them and said well you got to be in the right place and take advantage of it, hate the jealous folk that think there always right

Well done ATB Pole Star I thought they would of aswell mate but the fact there was a fair few fowlers out for the geese and I was only one who dared to walk /wade out whilst Tide was retreating , they must of just been a bit jealous as they were all banging away on sea wall as they were easily 100yards up and the tie they came to me they were like 25-30 yards so think it was just more of a jealousy factor to be honest

I have to wonder what some folk think their guns are capable of! Idiots!

anser2
My clubs have a limit of six , but in reality how many I shoot depends on how many I have shot recently and how far I have to walk with them. I tend to have a slinding scale, If I have had a long walk to get under the flight line I usually only shoot 2, butif I am shooting close t the car I may take a full limit of six. Inland on my own shoot I set a personal limit of 4 and If I have not shot them by 9.00 am then I leave and let the geese feed in peace.
