JustJon
Skype... Can be downloaded to smart phones or used on computers, wifi and free call away ?
filzee
while he is out the he can pick up a cheap sim card. One of the networks out there does a deal where if you put say $20 on the card you get 2000 international minutes. He should be able to find one. My mate did it a few years ago and was constantly calling.
flash
I've recently returned from oz and Nz for a year about heading back out beginning of December for another year and a half. I personally used viber app for smartphones. If you've got good 3G signal or wifi it is as good as a phone call!
Bradders
I use localphone to dial any overseas numbers. You basically dial a local number that gets forwarded to the overseas number. www.localphone.com

stumpy69
We travel the globe a lot with work and we use skype and if you both have smartphones Viber, we find we tend to go to viber first though as if you have a wifi signal it works as if you are making a call. My boss says it has saved the company a small fortune in expenses claims for international calls.
