gazbev
RB,might be ok for a hedge dog if it turns out small, Why not get a cocker and it will brush and retrieve
sitsinhedges
Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Patterdales are nasty little ******** and collies often aren't much better. Get a proper gundog

sitsinhedges
Mate has one and I find um To high practice lol Didint know patter dales was nasty Will agree on the collie tho The Patterdales that I've known have been incredibly aggressive which is great if you're sending it down a hole every day for a death struggle with a fox but as a pet they have to be one of the worst choices you could make, I hate them with a passion. huntsman
Just so wrong leave well alone crossing a earth dog with a sheep dog so so wrong
oscarsdad
Collies are my least favourite dog due to them being so quick to nip in my experience. Whilst I love terriers, patter dales are very aggressive little fellas...this cross sound like a recipe for disaster.
oscarsdad
You can have my border...he is lying in my lap engaging in biochemical warfare at the moment and he mings!

Frenchieboy
The Patterdales that I've known have been incredibly aggressive which is great if you're sending it down a hole every day for a death struggle with a fox but as a pet they have to be one of the worst choices you could make, I hate them with a passion. Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Patterdales are nasty little ******** and collies often aren't much better. Get a proper gundog It sounds like a few of you have just been unfortuinate to meet up with the wrong one or two Patterdales as this could be said of just about any "terrier type" when in working mode! silver pigeon 3
I have a Patterdale x Parsons and he is 12 now so slowing down, when he was in his prime he was the best ratter around bar none. We used to clear hay barns of rats with a group of other terriers and regulary had bags of 70+ with my angry ball of fur taking a good number of them. I have never met a dog with more aggression that hasn't been totally wild, but saying that in the house he has always been soft as!
Actionpigeons
Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Patterdales are nasty little ******** and collies often aren't much better. Get a proper gundog Cant see why you just dont buy a dog bred for the job. if people stooped buying the mongrel people bred they would stop breeding them as there would be no return. gazbev
Got to say a kind word about patterdales,I have never had one but I know people who have them and they are cracking dogs. Had a Border and he used to work with a patterdale, both nuts but in a nice way. Don't forget a lot of people who work long dogs prefer terriers to spaniels for brushing and not just for an earth dog. kent
Hi all Need some I info on patter dale x colly Has a farmer has some pups for sale We're I'm working Just wondering if they'd be a good hedge working Dog for game? And would they retrieve ? Has I do I bit of pigeon and crow shooting? Has I no nothink about dogs? Thanks rb Most dogs with Collie blood end up gunshy as they are bred noise sensitive to command on sheep at distance. They are great retrievers once they learn to pick the item up (many heard it ). Terriers are bred Hard in the mouth to kill vermin and mix it with Foxes underground. Sounds like a challenging mix to me
jingles
Both the breeds as discussed above have their drawbacks (of which I must agree), however you need to remember that all breeds have come out of experimentation and luck. Putting all previous advice to one side, if you have seen traits in these breeds which you would like in your gun dog it could potentially work. You do have to tread careful though it is just as easy for the two breeds to bring both of their drawbacks into the equation.
