gunner1000
this will be my first winter in the sport so am very excited to see what it brings, i was devastated yesterday a good 250 strong flock just floated into a game crop and there was no shoot on and farmer gave us permission to shoot it but when we drove down to it to scout it there was about 40 pheasants along the hedge so couldn't shoot it because of disturbing the birds :(
oscarsdad
Plenty on my perm but game shoot means its rifles only at the moment.

JDog
My guns now have cobwebs on them due to lack of use on the pigeons. I have taken up knitting for the winter months. If you read some of the other threads there have been massive migrations from the south coast of Wales into Devon (over 150,000 in one day) so it is hardly surprising that some areas are devoid of birds. If you focus your eyes above the 1000' mark you may see more pigeons on migration.

JDog
So then, what choke and cartridge combination do you suggest? I cannot hit them at 100' so guidance as to how to hit them at 1000' would be pointless.
madhunter
Put a number 5 choke in And start from there. Try shoot some clays to zero in your aim

Llanshooter
I managed to bring down a crow last thursday, when I paced it out it was 93 yds, 32g No 5 Gamebore. So how come I can't hit those that sneak up on me until they are 30 yds away before I realise?????
