wannabe_keeper
Sent my firearms application off last Wednesday along with my old shotgun cert to renew and update address and have got both through today! Well chuffed. Hats off to Sussex police. When I applied I requested for an open license for my .22-250 because I shoot on numerous areas of land. How do I know if I have been granted it as can't see anything on the license about it. There are 3 conditions one saying I can shoot on any land I have permission does that mean I have an open license?

wannabe_keeper
I've just moved so officer kinda did it all on one. Inspected the new cabinet and discussed firearms. Just can't believe it only took a week from posting to getting both back. Conditions read something along the lines of: 6. To shoot foxes and other lawful quarry, subject to the suitability of the calibre, and for zeroing on ranges, or land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot. 7. "...... use only in connection with the shooting of vermin or, in the connection with the management on any estate, other wildlife. Open license or not? Better get shopping for a .17 and .22-250! steve_b_wales
If it states 'deemed suitable by the chief officer of police', it's not an 'open' certificate.
wannabe_keeper
Does that not mean land that has been proofed by the police previously? I will of course phone them tomorrow to check...
CharlieT
Does that not mean land that has been proofed by the police previously? I will of course phone them tomorrow to check... It means what it says on the box. You can only shoot on land that has been deemed suitable by the COP. That means it is closed. An open one does not have the wording deemed suitable by COP. wannabe_keeper
Ok not to worry, I sent 9 land approval forms with the application so I'm assuming I'm good to go on all my perms detailed with the application.
Davyo
Dont worry mate about it being closed just means phoning you firearms unit to get the all clear to shoot new land.If you get a new perm email your authority with grid refs, name of landowner and cont number and the acreage. They cont the landowner and email you back saying land added to your file and your good to go.Last one I did took two days
Luckyshot
Ok not to worry, I sent 9 land approval forms with the application so I'm assuming I'm good to go on all my perms detailed with the application. Only if all 9 are already cleared. They should have told you if they were when they processed your application.
