SSS
I'm after a decent pair of wellies for beating, shooting and general round the farm use. Here's the problem. I've got very wide calves. I've got le chameau at the minute and they're ****. Too tight round my legs and my feet get freezing in them. I've tried Aigle (which I have the same problem with) and seeland which felt like they were going to fall apart. Chameau's with the zips undone are perfect, but I literally cannot do up the zip. My everyday wellies at the moment are Dickies land masters, which have been pretty good but the soles about worn out now. I tried the new harkilas which were fairly roomy. Any other recommendations? bigman
Hunter balmorals with the side straps? Iv a pair and there very comfy
SSS
Something I've seen online but yet to try. I had a pair of hunter classics some years ago but found them uncomfortable because of the silly little heel on them.
Leiopython
I'm in exactly the same position...calves huge from riding 15 horses a day!! I've just bought a pair of Hunter Argyll full knee wellies....very comfy, feel much better quality than many brands out there and they only cost £45 :-)
maxus77
Hmmmm interesting I have huge calfs and currently have some non adjustable argylls but they are getting old and found calfs very tight had got both the hunter balmoral carbon and agile parcours ISO in my final two as both adjustable , I might need to re think :( Off to measure calfs now ! Edit 18.5" at widest part on right and 18" on left Edited November 18, 2013 by maxus77
SSS
I'll see if my local tack shop (Hunter stockist) can get some in for me to try. I can't even get a pair of friggin Nora's on!
jmoz82
I have massive calfs and hunter balmoral fit fine !!!!
figgy
Same problem mate 20" right 19.5" left calf. The Aigle parcours with the strap undone just fits at a squeeze non of the hunters will go anywhere near. I bought some Harkila Estate leather boots with the zip up the back are comfy the zip won't go all the way up but not far off on me. I'm thinking my best bet is just wear country boots and gators. peacockks
hey Chaps, As a retired prop, I have big legs but the Hunter Balmoral with zips are fantastic and also have a wide footbed. coming with two sets of insoles (thin and thick) you can pretty much tailor the fits perfectly. they are not cheap (£150) but I have had mine two seasons and they are still great. regards Keith
figgy
Might be worth looking at American outfitters for wellies as my waders are for big lads from Cabala. Should do wellies aswell. Figgy
kiffy
i posted an almost identical message on here last year, i had several reccomendations but went for rok air wellies from eassy wellies, i just googled it to find a link and their half price on offer at the mo http://www.easy-wellies.co.uk/rok-wellies-c-912.html they are really comfortable for my big legs and a year on and their still in lovely condition Might be worth looking at American outfitters for wellies as my waders are for big lads from Cabala.Should do wellies aswell.Figgy i now have cabelas waders for us chunky ones and their brilliant so i dare say their wellies are the same

Figgy I wear my boots in favour of wellies, but there's going to be times when I need a pair. I've not looked into gators much, tried a few pairs but they were no good. I'll have a look at a few listed. My problem is, I have these calves, and skinny little ankles and small feet. I can normally squeeze into a size 10 welly, but I only need an 8-9 on my foot. Thanks guys!
IEH
Have you tried the Muckboots/Grubs options? The tops of these are neoprene so should stretch to the size of your calves.
SSS
Tried them IEH and they fit me, but I want something water proof and something that will offer protection from brambles all the way up to my breeks.

Tried them and after half an hour my feet went numb as the leg was to tight my son now has them. I contacted Hunter and was told nothing we make will fit you. There is a few websites that sell wellies for calves up to 50cm (19.5") but they're expensive and look ridiculous. Why can't the brands we want sell boots that fit? I've found a stockist of the harkilas that I found so I'm going to try them out and see what they're like.
tx4cabbie
My calves are 22" around, I tried seeland wellies, no good even with gusset fully stretched, asked advice and was told to try grub stalkers. In size 11 or 12, they easily fit over thick trousers and my mutant legs, are really warm, comfy, light, and very grippy sole. can't recommend them highly enough. tx4cabbie
Or try gumleaf Viking wellies, gusset is at the back and goes round Your calf muscle. I called them and they said they would go round a 19" calf no prob, didn't think they'd fit me or I'd have bought some. British made, worth a look

tx4cabbie
No prob with trousers, but with calves like mine and thighs to match, I don't buy drainpipe/skinny fit all that often! I spoke to gumleaf, don't know if they have stockists, they are small brit company based in Norfolk, but they said they would take back for full refund if unworn. seem quite nice people. Can't speak for quality of Goods, not seen.
