steve_b_wales
If this mud slinging and bickering continues, this thread will be locked. IF those concerned want to continue with their comments, then take them to the 'PM' system, as I for one do not wish to read about them. I am not going to clean up the thread, and will leave it as it is, for now.

Dave-G
Well this has been an interesting thread to anyone with an inkling of home build digital NVD developments over the last couple of years. Sorry if it dampens any bonfires but I haven't seen any new ground breaking NV events on this site that didn't start in a similar form on the NVFUK - which put the basics into a lot of peoples minds to progress from. Snypercat deserves a mention too. I'll point out that home build NVD's started their airings on the BBS night vision section to the best of my knowledge, credits to Chas, Geoff and a couple of others on there. At one time it came under moderator threat which (I think) is about when NVFUK sprang up. That site has been responsible for most of the foundations of shed builds. It's an inescapable fact that builds will be copied either wholly or in part - so best just get on with making them for those that don't have the skills or inclination to do it themselves. As a result of them not playing protectionist cards several of us gained and honed our abilities and passed them on - yes to some members on here too. It's where Oslon Black awareness come from, and a good few torch builds and of course the rigs too. One of the best ways of ensuring commercial prices continue to drop is to share the knowledge. FalconFN
Wherever the ideas and tips have come from, those that have put in the hours, in research and development, to produce their NV systems have my respect. They are superb systems and I hope that at some point they can make their money back, and more. Keep up the good work everyone.

mick miller
Sort of, but I see the where some folk are coming from. Yes, the elements are the same, camera, screen or viewer and supply but really that's just like saying all cars are the same since the model T. Yes, nothing new there then. If I could show the internals and all the 'extra' stuff that is going on in there maybe it would be clearer. The dimmer system is, as far as I'm aware, new. The camera is super sensitive and the power management system is a lot more sophisticated than the home builds that have gone before. All this will be condensed into a circuit board that makes duplicating them on a small scale much easier, I wouldn't call it manufacturing yet, more cottage industry. But I can be certain of this, it's way more complex than cutting the ends of a near eye viewer and dropping it into a project box with a bunch of foam stuffed round it so it doesn't rattle too much. Everything has been reworked to do the job right and is mounted well enough to handle a decent amount of recoil. But I'll carry on carrying on and as soon as I can find my DVR, record some more footage.
weebster
I like Micks build and it certainly makes alot of sense to be able to control the ir from that position,if only there was a motorised zoom ir torch things would be complete Things are starting to move quickly in the digital nv scene. mick miller
It must be possible but is it necessary? I can dim the light down to virtually nothing for ratting close in then ramp it up in a second for long distance foxing. Works for me! Of course it is Mick,my torch is beneath the silencer and I have short arms and you can never have to many toys .....you're right of course,a dimmer would do the same thing but without the whirring noise of electrical motors ps. btw I was joking about the motorised zoom Edited January 23, 2014 by weebster

My tack with 501 torch/IR builds has been to show people what's involved and some will DIY - but several will be impressed enough to have me do it for them if DIY is not for them. Make the circuit board profitable in its own right is what I would do with that - then sell it to DIY's as well.
