Suffolk shooter
Sounds good mate, give it a couple of weeks, as I am tied up for the next month on Monday night's, but certainly wouldn't mind a bash. Other than country fairs and Bisley, I've not done much Rifle shooting, so at least you can teach me. Just don't talk a load of ballistics to me, I'm not interested. All you do is line up and squeeze trigger and BANG....... you hit the target. However should you have the full use of a Milan anti tank missle, then I'll be really excited Yet another reason for my missus to divorce me, oh well there's a bright side to everything I suppose....................... Is it the same with clays in that you start to go "Hommmmmmmm........" and "be the bull, be the bull" SS PS well done on the medal mate, first time out and all. Catamong
I made the most of the good weather, nipped over to West London Sporting Targets at Northolt on Saturday, (not to be confused with the West London Shooting School right next door), nice friendly little club, good value for money, considering it's location, and run by one of the real characters in the shooting world, Andy Castle. Shot a pretty tough FITASC layout, (I hate shooting gun down..!!), did a 19 ex 25 , but redeemed myself on the skeet with a 24 followed by a 25. On Sunday drove up to Lakenheath to shoot the 100 bird registered Sporting, had a quick warm up on the skeet, 22 and 24, then shot the Sporting, it was a good layout, despite the wall to wall sunshine the course setter kept every target out of the sun. Managed an 88 despite missing 3 or 4 silly targets, ended up 5th overall, so not a total disaster. Then went down the road to Barrow Heath for another 100 Reg Sporting, the usual rather boring 10 stands of 10, was at one stage going well only dropping 2 over the first 80 targets, then went and blew it by missing a further 3 on the last 2 stands. Ended up joint second on 95, young Scott Greenfield won it with a 96. Spoke to a friend of mine who shot Wylye Valley in Wilts yesterday, said that Jonsey had turned in another blinder and yet again, beaten most of the guys, well done Jonsey, roll on Doveridge next weekend. To be honest I was out at the Game and country fair on Sunday in Ipswich, good day out with the family although I'd rather having been shooting (No clay shoot there ) We'll need to plan in advance then Cat, as we both appear to be busy. Cat Blinder? I shot as though I was blind, is that the same thing? Good shooting Cat, shame to miss out by 1 at Barrow Heath. Care to explain how you ended up with a 22 on the skeet? Nah, I’m pulling your leg. Listen I don’t want you practicing Skeet too much I’m getting worried about how much money I’ll have to part with whenever we shoot that registered. I’m regretting saying £1 per clay now, saying that you must be a bit worried otherwise you wouldn’t be doing all that practice eh!!!!! Wylye was a great shoot, the weather was brilliant and there were no stands in the sun. It had some tricky and deceiving targets, you needed a fair amount of aggression and there was a “Southdown†rabbit. On the whole it was tough but great targets. I didn’t shoot well at all really I couldn’t concentrate, there was a bit of tomfoolery going on in our squad and I get bothered by other peoples behaviour, especially when it’s less than good. By stand 7 I was ready to go home and I should have really. Finished on 67 (hanging my head in shame) I could have done better. I'm putting it down to a bad day at the office. On the way home the car started spewing smoke out of the back and making an almighty rattle, at one point it was so bad I couldn’t see what was behind me for ages, a few miles from home I decided the Recovery people were needed so the car was loaded onto the back of the lorry. It's going to cost a fair bit to get fixed Anyway I’m really looking forward to Doveridge next weekend. I’ve even cleaned my gun especially for the occasion. Jonsey
Where is Doveridge (yes, don't tell me, Doveridge) and do they have a webby? Hi Mungler, It's not far from Stoke-on-Trent, I've only shot it once last spring. It's a steep walk to the last stand though. http://www.doveridgeclaysports.co.uk/

I always end up weeping when I come up your way, I drove past a number of freshly drilled fields with plenty of woodies on them, but was there anybody shooting it..?? It wouldn't be like that down my way. Cheers, Cat.
Suffolk shooter
Where are these fields then Cat, only we're still struggling to see any numbers round my way (30 miles further down the A14 towards ipswich from Barrow)? I even went over to the syndicate estate on Saturday for a chat with the keeper and saw all of Four whilst out and about. Mind you saw loads of our Phezzies from last year that have decided to return now its safe Give me plenty of warning though Cat, as I am currently busy until May, even then I may have something on, it's just I can't think that far ahead at the moment. I'm sure MC and I can meet up with you at some point though for the craic. Be nice to learn off of somebody who shots consistently well. daddypigsaw
Did quite well at our club comp. at Lowes Lane yesterday. Sporting: 21/25 DTL: 25/25 - first straight ever in two years of shooting, two second barrels (second shot really as I was using my AL391 Urika semi) and up against a (ex?) Welsh national shooter (shot 24) and with my old man watching. Well chuffed with that.
MC
It was the first shoot of the new season at my local club, I scored 37/50 which was fourth overall. Plenty of excuses to be had today, Snow, wind etc. But to be honest I should have shot better. I straighted the first stand and dropped 1 on the next, the force wasn't too strong on the battues and dropped 3. I had hoped to get around 44 but it was not to be. The Express World cup cartridge is fast becoming a favorite though. Incidentally high gun was 48/50 then a 45 and a 40 then me and about 6 others on 37. the last engineer
Martin, i notice a lot of you guys post shoots of 50 birds, is that a normal shoot or are there more birds in others. im not to sure if this would be the right way of putting it, but a "normal" competition would consist of "x" number of targets ?? what is "x" does it vary from area to area ? curious is me, seems like most of the local shoots run a 50 bird layout , would that be the general set up. most of the comps we have here run 200 birds, some are a split 100/100 am-pm break for lunch, personaly i like to run straight through, though i do understand some elderly members cant keep it up, i bow to age and determination everytime, a couple of shoots run 400 over the weekend sat and sun, im running a sponsered shoot this summer with a cash out of $5,000 (come on LB I'll give you lessons ) still goingto set up a shoot scoot and scramble this year as well, 100 targets in the morning squads of 4 shooters, nine holes in the afternoon wit hpig roast after, best scores targets and holes wins, great time had. cat and pin should try that one :( Martin
MC
TLE, Most of the shoots I attend are local "Haybale shoots" run by a few local people on a sunday morning. The vast majority of them are 50 bird shoots as it a reasonable ammount to get done for when the pubs open. A lot of the larger shoots are 100 or 200 bird shoots but you really have to travel. I like going to several of the local shoots in my area as you never get the same set up twice. There are several pay and play grounds where you can shoot what you want, of the shoots that offer cash prizes pull in all the bandits for miles. I try not to take clay shooting to seriously and just enjoy doing it. Cheers Martin

pin
Biggest tip I can give is forget the ball is there, just swing through it rather than concentrating on hitting it and you will be surprised how much more effortless hitting 80%+ range of any club becomes. Until you need to be hitting 95% of a clubs range you don't need to hit it hard, just take one more club to it. I find that people get "target fixation" on the ball which makes them concentrate 90% of effort on the part before you actually make contact with the ball, with whatever is left over for the follow through and correct weight transfer, they are equally important but most people won't believe it until they see it for themselves. Definitely a sport where good form is far more important to success than power, the power comes after

MC
I shot my local shoot this morning and carded a 48/50 and took high gun for second month in succession, I really ought to join the club because that would now be two bottles of wine I would have won. Yesterday really has dented my confidence, and the more I think about it, the more concerned I am. Anyway, whats this "at his own ground" rubbish, I have shot there twice, so have no advantage over you on that score. Well done on the Bell result though. Can you believe that at 9.30 last night my missus gave me a pass for this as well But owing to yesterdays poor effort, I declined playing the "Lets spend the day together as a family" card. She thinks I'm wonderfully now, little does she no the real reason. SS
