Scrumbag
Hello there, I'm looking at getting my first semi auto shotgun. Primarily for duck and goose hunting but I'd also like the option of using it for smoothbore slug hunting wild boar sur la continent Now, I do believe in buying cheap usually means buying twice so I don't mind spending money on something if it is worth it. So, I reckon my specifications are: 26" Barrel - Should be long enough and am not drinking the long barrel cool aid 3.5" Chamber - Not always used but nice to have the capability Possible to mount a red dot My options seem to be: Browning Maxus Benelli Super Vinci or SBEII Beretta A400 So, what do people reckon? Anything else to consider? Thanks in advance, Scrummy

rwade545
Beretta xtrema 1. Have one with a 26" barrel, same length as my o/u with 30 inch barrels. Has a locking bolt so extra secure, all the recoil springs and stuff are under the fore end so don't have to worry about them rusting as easy to getvto and maintain instead of them being in the stock. Very little recoil ( hardly felt with 36gram steel loads). 3.5inch chambers but cycle 28 grams with out any problems. Only down side is the trigger is not the crispest, but that's not in usualy for a semi. Look around and you will get a gun for life for around 750-800. Scrumbag
Cheers Mike, how do you find the recoil compared to a "gas-gun"? rwade, interesting idea...

lambchop
Not sure if they do a short enough barrel but just bought a winchester sx3 and can't fault it. Seems to cycle everything and easy to clean.

The Ghost
beretta xtrema 2, mine has been faultless and used more for pigeon shooting with light loads. They have very little recoil keeping you on target for the 'often used second and third shots' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6bKbqSdNEc Edited December 16, 2013 by The Ghost
Sx3 clay breaker
Maxus or sx3 if it was me I absolutely love my maxus can't rate it high enough
Fib new
Maxus or new A5 would be my choice -maxus if you want gas-operated, a5 if you want recoil-operated. Tested both with a few friends and the recoil of the new a5 wasn't any more disturbing than the maxus. Also had an old browning gold when we tested them -gold had the least felt recoil. Paulywauly
I have a Maxus and I love it. No complaints at all.
tbox
I went for a Benelli SBE2. Very reliable and simple inertia system is easy to clean and maintain. That said if the a400 was available in lefthand I would have been tempted..

Thanks in advance, Scrummy Add the SX3 its basically the maxus but comes up different. oh and its cheaper, think I have had mine 4-5 seasons now - hard mash shooting in the main and its proved very reliable and easy to service
kent
can't speak high enough about my benelli fac Hard to impossible to take on the marsh within club rules and stay within the Law as regards FAC conditions of use.

Rimfireboy
I've got an A400 Xtreme and I'm well happy with it. It's so soft to shoot now it's bedded in. Magnum loads, can't feel 'em.
Splashy
The Maxus has got to be the best looking semi auto available. I know it is not really important but every time I pick up the Maxus I do have a smile on my face since it looks and handles so great.
