evo
lets be honest,, what your saying and doing is not exactly setting a good example to anyone reading this thread and it is an open forum, but if its what you do then me saying anything will only cause debate, so you crack on but I have to say ,, if anyone did it whilst out shooting with me,,they would never shoot with me again, I just don't see a funny side to it atb Evo
kent
I think is an element of unfair criticism here but its not something I should do personally ever. There is just no reason to do it and freak occurrences can occur, like someone mentioned balling and welding of shot- I have never seen this but I have heard of it happening many times, have seen steel shot retained in a plastic wad over considerable range not once but many times with a faulty batch of factory shells, it was suggested to me then that the shot cup was flipping over then traveling tail first. Whatever you don't expect single slug holes punching in 50 yds pattern boards. At the time I was trying to explain why I got so many freaky misses on easy shots with these shells
arko
personally don't think its a good idea to shoot at anyone at any range be it in the air or not,, accidents happen, my advice is,,, if your bored then pack up and go home don't start mucking about with firearms trying to land shot on each other, being a responsible person in charge of a firearm is a must, merry Christmas Well said! +

sitsinhedges
Small shot falling is no big deal. Quite often I will shoot directly upwards at a bird and what seems like an age later the shot will patter around me like rain with no harm ever done

I think greater consideration should be given to shallower angles at long range however to take into account any abnormalities

This argument is here only because guns are involved and some don't see any light side to them. It's no more dangerous than trying to catch a cricket ball going at full tilt towards your face or skiing down a big hill. Unfortunately many see guns as far more dangerous than they really are. Of course in some situations they are very dangerous, but in others they are pretty well harmless.
activeviii
I think some people need to spend time in the beating line or picking up on a shoot. you will be rained on in just about every drive. From over the years i have got tom know NJC, one thing i can tell you is he is the most safety aware person i know. would never every do something to endanger life and to top it all off, he has one head of a head then knows to much about ballistics. To the OP, we like to say 300 for a 6 shot, this gives more than enough fall out even with the wind behind the shot. if plod comes knocking because a local is worried you can talk straight with them and tell then that after 250 the onlooker is safe but you like to give an extra 50 just so if there is a complaint then you can put it to bed that the onlooker is telling lies. evo
firstly I would like to say one thing,, I am on the beating line a minimum of two times a week, but this does not change my opinion about messing about with a firearm, if that's the sort of thing some people like to do then that's up to them, one thing I will say is " if a person was very safety conscious as you said, then arsing around with firearms and shooting at each other, you call that safety crikey am I thankful I don't shoot with any of the people who think its ok to do, the people I take out shooting will tell you, I am strict when it comes to being safe at all times, pointing a loaded gun at anyone is a defo NO, discharging it is crazy and asking for trouble, as I said in my first post,,if your bored pack up and go home,, firing shot at people directly or indirectly is just pure irresponsible and should not be done, anyway I,ve had my say and said how I feel but for anyone to do the daft thing that has been mentioned needs to take a serious look at themselves and ask,, should I really be shooting atb Evo
peteri
Back to the OP, when I had my SGC interview this year - 300yds was the 'official' safe range for a shotgun Cheer Pete
Alfred
firing shot at people directly or indirectly is just pure irresponsible and should not be done, I'd probably agree, I think you'd have to work hard to hurt someone doing it, I get rained on often when I'm beating, but I wouldn't do it on purpose just for entertainment. And I'd probably be a bit miffed if someone was doing it to me deliberately.
