chacotawas
Once again I'm looking for help. My question is as above. I guess the answer is either yes or no, Though any enlargement on that would be much appreciated.
lees
Yes, it's putting cartridges that are longer than the chambers in that's the problem.
kent
Yes but if you ever put 3 in the mag you are in breech of the law unless you have an FAC detailing that gun!
simon1979
Yes but if you ever put 3 in the mag you are in breech of the law unless you have an FAC detailing that gun! Sorry Kent why do you need a fac for that?
Big Mat
Sorry Kent why do you need a fac for that? If its only shotgun cert its only allowed 2 in the mag

kent
If its only shotgun cert its only allowed 2 in the mag Like the man says. 3 1/2" magnum didn't exist when the act was passed. I am informed (by the authorities) that a very dim view is being taken on the practice, cant see why any might as if you can get triples your doing well anyhow

Field Shooter
As above the answer is yes they will fit and wont be dangerous, but the paterns will be afected as the shot and wad colomb has to jump the gap between the end of the shell and the start of the forcing cone alowing some chamber gas to bleed by, worse in fibre wad ammunition than plastic. The answers in regards to the gun being clased as section 1 with three in the mag is also corect my old Mossy 500 3inch chambered was restricted to 2 but I could still get 3 65mm shell's in the mag. Some 3 1/2inch guns will cycle the short shell's others wont as is in the case of my Mossy 835 as the shell gets pushed onto the shell lifter it tumbles and gets caught in the shell lifter tang causing it to jam. Cawdor118
I think he was asking if it's safe to use 2 1/2" cartridges in a gun that's chambered for 3 1/2" shells... Answer is YES, it's safe to use any lead cartridge below 3 1/2" (76mm) in length. I think some people on this thread (or maybe it's me) have got he wrong end of the stick thinking he meant about stacking up a semi autos magazine... Where as he never mentioned any semi auto in his title. Cheers!

Very true but always good to mention just so you dont make a mistake and fall foul of the law (As bloody stuped the law may be)

(smiley.... if I knew where the hell to get them).
HDAV
It's a very gray area like ghost loading there was a rumour that all 3.5" semis would be FAC as you could stick more 2" shells in the mag the sneer was the number of shells that the gun is proofed for must be limited to 2. The oddity is the law was meant to limit semi and pumps to 2 shots like an OU or SxS the 1 in the chamber is an unintended consequence as is one on the carrier.......
