billytheghillie
I have a 200, for 2 years now and cannot fault it
bluesj
At 4 to 5k I would say an Isuzu, although I prefer the L200 (that’s why I got one ) the ride on the Isuzu is a bit too bouncy for my liking. It’s not easy to find a new shape L200 for 5k and wouldn't bother with the older shape unless you’re good with the spanners. dodeer
I'd go for a 2005/6 Ranger, B2500 or BT50 if you can find one Edited January 13, 2014 by dodeer
bluesj
The old shape can have one or two problems mainly over heating and crank shaft pulley, can get expensive if faults are not picked up and fixed in time! The new shape (known as pram) are a lot better and more user friendly (but I still like the look of the classics)The only problems I’ve found with the Isuzu’s other than the boat like ride is the electrics (broken wires that can be a nightmare to find) and the brakes on the older ones are a bit vague, they work ok just not much feel. I've seen something about crank shaft pulley problems. I do prefer the look of the Isuzu and they do seem to have a higher spec, maybe can uprate the supension? I’ve never done any mods to the suspension on the Isuzu but I would have thought a set of up rated dampers would help no end. Take one out for a drive you might like it as it is lots of people do, the one I had for work was great on motorways like driving a sofa but not so great on the twisty bits
Elby
Will be used mainly for twisty bits and off road
bluesj
Is it going to be your daily drive/only car or just a weekend shooting/trips to the tip truck?
Elby
I'll use it daily but the main use will be going to the farm (20 minute drive) and then going round the farm feeding ect
delburt0
Thought of a hilux
Elby
Thought of a hilux Yes but I think you get a lot more car for the money from the other two. Hi-lux are great but over priced imo
bluesj
The only thing you can do is go and try some, if you could stretch you budget a bit you should be able to find all but a hi lux, and all of the newer truck are good , got their little problems but nothing big.Picked up my 06 L200 for £5000 from a dealer I know, he just wanted it gone because it didn’t fit in with his stock, he only took it in because I was after one. I spent about £300 t0 £400 on it sorting out a few bits on it (a set of tyres , air bag clock spring and a bit of trim) a mate has just got a 56 navara for 5750 I think. If you can’t stretch then I’d look at the Isuzu or ford ranger older l200 and navaras are nice truck but just too much of a risk for me to recommend them to any one. bluesj
yep engines can be a problem on the D22, if you find one that has had the crank bolts done you should be ok but i know of some that had the bolts changed for the same c**p bolts not the up rated ones. Elby
Thanks chaps. The older navara's pop a con rod. My mate had 2 go on him. Nissan eventually admitted fault and paid him for replacement engines. Wouldn't buy one unless it had the recall done. I think the Isuzu is my favourite, seen new shape ones for sensible money and if they are Chevrolet badged even cheaper. I wreck cars too quick so refuse to spend big money on them any more

Fisheruk
Rodeo Denver by a mile. Different as chalk and cheese. I had one before I upgraded to the new D-Max. Both are in a different league to the L200. IMO
al4x
The problem is the isuzu's hold their value well for a 2nd hand buy. I'm on my 2nd l200 this one is an 05 plate and with one owner and 60k cost me 6k and that was 3 years and 50k ago. Great truck for my shooting uses and is a day to day drive so no complaints. I have had the crank pulley done which is a £100 part but let's face it that isn't the end of the world. Now I'm thinking of an upgrade and I have no idea what I would replace it with as whatever I get will spend a load of time off road getting muddy and with dead stuff and dogs in it. The new ones just seem too bling, both isuzu's and hilux you struggle to get much for less than 10k
Elby
Loads of Isuzu's at the right money Alex. I don't think they hold their value at all
