welsh1
Cannabis related suicides and psych cases ? Get real dude that's like saying the three people I know who have committed suicide were all " coffee related" ,there is absolutley zero medical proof in existence that cannabis causes psychosis and the entire psychosis theory was the work of one attention seeking Dutch physician just like the entire don't give your kids the MMR jab for autism debacle was the result of one stupid English doctor and remains nothing more than speculation ( but once the media gets its teeth into some contraversy it doesn't let go without a fight )just because somebody who is a tad radio rental happens to smoke cannabis does not in any way prove that the cannabis caused it . I'm 2 stone overweight and enjoy a grapefruit or two every week but I wouldn't blame the grapefruit for my waistline One Worth a read, http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/healthadvice/problemsdisorders/cannabis.aspx

kdubya
Does that mean you think prohibition does or doesn't work, given that it was illegal at the time of them using it? No it absolutely does not work, we are not strong enough with controlling it lets face we have as much direction and control of our borders as a lunatic in a barrel has when going over Niagara Falls. four-wheel-drive
I think that they found that cannabis causes psychosis only in people who would have got it anyway it just tends to bring it on a bit quicker I think that it is down to genetics most people will have a puff every now and then and be fine but others cannot seem to stop it is the same with alcohol. alexl
I think that they found that cannabis causes psychosis only in people who would have got it anyway it just tends to bring it on a bit quicker I think that it is down to genetics most people will have a puff every now and then and be fine but others cannot seem to stop it is the same with alcohol. I remember seeing a documentary on this exact subject. I can’t remember the exact facts, but if I recall correctly they were discussing the links between schizophrenia and cannabis use. Statistics show that there was an increased chance of users suffering from mental illness, but not enough scientific research had been conducted to establish all of the facts relating. One interesting point raised was that one of the active parts (THC or something?) which is responsible for the 'high' when used, was also an active ingredient in the pharmaceutical drugs used to treat schizophrenia. So was the increased incidence because the drug causing mental illness, or because previously undiagnosed sufferers were more likely to become users because of the soothing effects felt after use. I think more research needs to be conducted to establish the whole facts of the matter, before any decisions are made. Wasnt Proff Nutt was sacked from his role as the governments chief drugs adviser over the fact that he disagreed with the politically motivated reclassification of cannibis, despite the fact he advised against it? Im sure he also provided a list of other drugs more harmfull, i seem to recall a couple of surprising drugs being listed as less dangerous than both cigarettes and alcohol. Penelope
These posts nail it, IMO. I think this thread is very funny. All this "people playing Russian roulette and not knowing what they are getting". Blimey, that happens every weekend in every pub / club throughout the land and hasn't thus far stemmed the masses desire for drugs (legal or otherwise). The "market sector" is massive. Absolutely massive. Legalisation and taxation are the only sensible answers to a war that hasn't been won, won't be won and can't be won. Alchol is legal and on balance the majority manage to stay sober, get to work and not overdose..... They had the perfect drug in extasy in fact it is safer to take than most drugs like asprin but one or two people got some bad ones and so they banned it instead of doing the proper thing and leaglising it and making it with clean ingredients and selling it over the counter in chemist I could say the same about marihuana. Mentalmac
The way I see it is that now days EVERYTHING has to be bigger and better than years a go. i.e Xbox games are now so real that people imitate them. Films are so real people believe them *(Mainly Americans), celebs are so loved that their music and ramblings taken as gospel. When I was younger, friends of mine would have a little puff on a bit of weed and that was that, then booze etc... But now all these legal highs are really taking the biscuit. I worry mainly because I have kids and by the time they are old enough, there will probably be something much worse. I vote that we work out how to just do a 'total recall' style thing where they put on a headset and goggles and can be 'stoned' for a few hours in their own minds. Much easier.
