-Mongrel-
Yikes they start at around £600.Too much for me I'm afraid ! I'm now looking at Pro 9's I'll let you kmow how I get on within the next few weeks. Thanks for all of the input. Some intresting stuff out there. CENS are expensive, the ones I linked you to have just cost me £80 with a passive filter fitted and delivered. -Mongrel-
Are these safe enough for shooting with then ? Decibel wise are they up to the job ? They sound just the job. Well I've just ordered some for the sake of £7.00. We'll see if I can still hear after 50 Sporting ! I have tried these, make sure you really pack them into your ear properly, don't talk or open your jaw while they are setting...and you may get a decent result. I didn't get on with the fit or like the look of the end result I finished up with.

I miss read the add.Sorry, £80 is much better than £600, it would'nt break the bank. If I cant get sorted I'll look into these. Thanks Mick

I didn't get on with the fit or like the look of the end result I finished up with. Mine turned up last night. After a couple of attempts in the boiling water, I got a decent result, but the finished product feels very hard and since its a mould/perfect fit there will be no 'push' so I cant see it sealing very well ? I'm shooting on Sunday morning so we'll see. On the bright side I got a short personal message with my package from the Inventer of the Material, who lives in Leeds !!! Came across as a 'Mad Professor' type person, but in a good way !
Westley
How long do they take to make and where are they based i might have a pair and save me a few hundred £££ Have a look at the Emtech passives, have had mine for some 15 years with no problems. Had my Cens for nearly 4 years with nothing but problems with them. They packed up AGAIN yesterday.

casts_by_fly
I have the same problem as the OP. I have to have in ear for shotguns. The problem is I can't stand not being able to hear when I'm in the woods. It isn't so bad on a driven day when you're alone on the peg and watching for the birds more than walking around and hearing them, but for pigeon roost shooting or walking around in the woods I can't stand not being able to hear. I have now bought my third pair of surefire EP series in-ear plugs. They are pretty good. They offer a 28 dB reduction in 'normal' and up to 32 if you use the added tiny plug that comes with them. I can hear with them just fine as they don't cut off sound until a minimum threshold. They fit in my ear really well and don't move. They fit down into the ear so i can wear fleece muffs over for warmth. I can carry on a conversation with them in but I'm not afraid to shoot a bunch with them (and I have chrinoc tinnitus). They are £12-20 on amazon depending on the specific model. I am on my 3rd pair because I abuse them and leave them in pockets rather than put them away properly. thanks, rick
norfolk dumpling
Same problem - having a slightly chubby and short face I can't get on with over the ear defenders. Have been using insert ones (orange rubber with small metal filter) for 10 yrs now and they seem to have protected hearing well. Bought 3 sets and lost one and can't find similar anywhere so being very careful.
