OddJob
My father in law is down sizing and has a Mauser 16 bore with a 57 something rifle underneath. It's something he wants to keep in the family and is offering it my way. I am more than keen to take it from him. I am after some advice on how they decide the award of a FAC. What are the grounds upon which they grant a FAC for the first time? I do have a permission but only shoot pigeons on it. Would I need to ask the farmer if the land might be considered for the application? I would not be looking to actually shoot the rifle element for the sake of accuracy. Looking for experience rather than here say.
Dekers
You need to speak to your region!
aris
Join your local target shooting rifle club. Usually there is a probation period of about 6 months before you can become a full member, and then can apply for your FAC.
Scottoj18
You can join a club or get permission form the land owner. You need to find out what caliber it is because for a first application they might not let you have it.
aris
Might help to know what gun it is and exactly which calibre. If this rifle is antique, it may well be an obsolete calibre which has a section 58 exemption.
OddJob
It is a 8x57 16 gauge Mauser drilling so it's not an obsolete calibre. Will I either need to be a member of a target rifle club for a period of time and/or have permission for land in order for them to even entertain the idea? I know there is a need to prove a need for firearms, I was just wondering if there might be other ways. I'll give them a call on Monday. AS #2, they will not let you just walk around the fields popping pigeon with the shotgun part, you will need a good case for the rifle part! Being a member of a rifle club may help to get the rifle, but it will only condition it for target, that means you don't get to walk around the fields with it! Andy RV
I'd be willing to bet your only way of keeping it will be to join a club, I can't see the FLO being too keen to grant a 8x57 for the occasional rabbit!
team tractor
Deactivate it ?
sonicdmb
book some boar shooting here or abroad these guns are mostly found over in Germany France etc. This gives you the good reason. or maybe some woodland stalking permission. Paul223
What does the FIL have it currently conditioned for?
iain
Deactivate it ? You should be ashamed to say that. Book some deer stalking and join a target club.
