rtaylor
Went into Aldi today and they had a little (0.6L) ultrasonic cleaner for about £22. I didn't get one but I was wondering if it would be suitable for cleaning rifle brass? I don't have a tumbler so I was thinking this would do to get them clean although not necessarily shiny? Fisheruk
Also useful for cleaning the Missus's rings. Earn yourself some Brownie points. Also if SWMBO can see a use saves a lot of agro.

rtaylor
Sounds ideal for what I want then. Is tumbling only really for polishing then? What liquid/solvent do you use with them? I couldn't see any for sale in Aldi.

malkiserow
How useful are ultrasonic cleaners to homeloaders? Are they a luxury rather than basic kit? Edited February 17, 2014 by malkiserow
steve_b_wales
How useful are ultrasonic cleaners to homeloaders? Are they a luxury rather than basic kit? I did'nt find mine to be that good at cleaning the cases, despite using various additives. For many years, I have used Birchwood Casey case cleaner. I mix the solution with hot water, and soak the cases for a couple of hours. After that, I place the cases on a tray and put them on a very low heat in the oven, or after the oven has been used, and heat is still in there. Sometimes after drying them, I put them through my case tumbler with a bit of Brasso added to the media. The cases are then sparkling clean, inside and out. henry d
I really like mine, cleans inside and out with no dust to worry about and no media getting stuck in the case/flash-hole/primer pocket. Doesn`t get them brasso clean, but hey ho I aint that bothered.

Livefast123
I think I'll have to invest after just manually cleaning 100 .44 Magnum cases at the sink......
rtaylor
What actually goes into ultrasonic cleaner? In the manual it says you can use just warm water or for a deeper clean 3% dishwasher detergent (Fairy?) or 3% alcohol cleaner (Meths?) in with the water. And how long do you leave the brass in for?
