dogz25
Hi emailed firearms to let them know I sold a shotgun and to whom bought it etc. firearms emailed me back with this. You have a responsibility to also notify the Force of the person receiving the shotgun as the transfer involves a certificate holder residing in another Force area. So I emailed them this back after speaking with basc and as yet no reply. . Please could you provide me with which firearms act and section this relates too. As I understand there is no such law for me to do so. I have filled in his licence and filled his transfer form. Thank you. What's your thoughts cheers

dogz25
They are trying to make me dance through hoops on every aspect of this firearms act and a lot more as they keep making things up as and when it suits them. They told me it's against the law not to carry my licence with me when out in field.

sonicdmb
There is no requirement to carry your SGC/FAC but and its a big BUT if required by a constable to produce it your guns my be seized until you do. You have to take into account that this was written before computers. Many police officers don't know the law regarding firearms and while you'd expect staff in the firearms department to know the law they generally only know what they are trained to know. Much of this is dictated by force policy.

browning123
My firearms certificate expires in July, and I'm really not looking forward to all the hassle filling in the paperwork, photos, permissions etc. i've held firarms & shotgun certificates since the 60's, And due to my advancing years and recent health issues I'm really toying with the idea of packing it all in! But why do i have the feeling thats what the authorities want!

activeviii
Dogz, you stop winding them up, you are having enough problems with them as it is. you got the land checks delt with yet?
njc110381
Stop winding them up? I'd do exactly the same. They don't make the laws any more than we do, so when they ask for stupid stuff they can get lost. Simple!

As I understand there is no such law for me to do so. I have filled in his licence and filled his transfer form. Was - Tried to extract myself by reading and re-reading the Act but even find guidance does me down! Must have come from a 'recommendation' than actual law! Well well well really ha

They told me it's against the law not to carry my licence with me when out in field. Sounds like my firearms division rules - they make their own too , I have never carried my licence with me whilst shooting on a farm but have recently started carrying it with me if going on a longer car journey with firearms as a mate of mine got stopped - "routine check " didn't have his licence so they impounded his gun until he took his licence to the station and as he was 100 miles plus away from home it was a real pain in the *rse ! Redgum
Though I know I should not say this as it will bring the dark fate of doom upon me but I have always found Gloucester force to be pretty helpful, well Bob Parry anyhow. There is one certain PC who lives in the Forest who seems to understand law differently to the way it is but he's pretty harmless and soon to be put out to grass. sonicdmb
If no one stands up to the firearms departments when they try to impose things that are not required in law then they will continue to do it. I find being polite but firm and having a copy of the guidance to hand helps. I must say its been a while since I have had any need to stand up to them. Even questions such as can I build my own moderator or how do I stand on building a punt gun, got nothing more than straight answers and reasonable requests as to what they would like me to do. Such as giving the mod a serial number.
