Shooting2
Hey guys, Well had a text on Monday to say spring wheat will be set by two farmers of two fields next to each other on tuesday or Wednesday! So went to have a look tonight, one field all done and the other being done as I was there. So thought right i'll be there on Friday. Walking of another shooter comes to have a look an says he'll be shooting It tomorrow, but there weren't any birds on tonight so tried to tell him to wait till there a few on but he's having none of it! I can't go tomorrow cos of exam at college and so I am now banking on the other field to get a few pigeon but there's some one else who shoots that so I am really annoyed that some ones shootin the small field without letting the birds build up and I don't know when he other shooters turning up on the big field. Should I go fri morning and hopes here's just a few birds on an have half a day cos of college or risk waiting letting the birds build to have a full day on sat and he gets there on friday. Very annoying times cos noboby but me wants to let the birds build up for a day, i mean they havent even found it yet and there's some one going tomorrow. Let us know how you lads get on an hopefuy I might just get a few ATB
fenboy
If I had the sole shooting I would let them build on drilling but the reality these days is there is unlikely to be enough seed on top to attract many pigeon anyway. But in your case what are you achieving in telling the other gun to let them build up ? if its a case of you telling him that so you can have first crack at them then I can understand him not having any of it. At the end of the day if you share shooting you have to accept that someone may beat you to it . Edited March 19, 2014 by fenboy
TDRsniper
Why not try to partner up and do it together (different ends of the field) to keep the birds moving?
aga man
i wouldn't worry too much, it will generally take the birds a few days to find the seed. unless there are birds flighting/crossing the fields already there will nothing to decoy tommorow. Dbw1shrops
+1 what aga man says think your man is wasting his time don't worry yourself to much might be better off having a look at it on Saturday 👍 Atb Dave
stuy
like the other lads said they havent found it yet! thats the problem when you share shooting, try and have a chat with him we all do it slightly different to each other . have a look at the drilling is there much spillage seed on top, they dont take long to glean a field and move on, to judge the right time to shoot a field is an art , leave it too late and there gone!!( i know i have done it!) too early and you feel hard done by,you got to play the percentage game taking in all the factors weather , other food sources available , and other shooters!!!! i was out today and found 4 fields with possibilities 3 rape , and 1 barley drilling, all had 300 plus pigeons on them!! not shooting til saturday and will have another look friday afternoon it could all be different then, thats the pigeon!!! Fisherman Mike
Shouldn't worry about it...let him shoot it tomorrow...if there's nothing about he wont shoot any will he.? and if he does then job done...crop protected..the object of allowing us to shoot wood pigeon under the general licence is to protect the crops not protect your shooting. Your examinations and secondary education is more important than shooting pigeons at the moment...there will be plenty of other opportunity in the future...
