pegasus bridge
Would you get away with keeping a knife in your car on the basis it was to harvest road kill heads like this? Obviously If it's part of a kit (gloves, bags etc) to do this, if it was secure and in the boot of course? Or would the occasional possibility of doing this not be enough of a good reason to be in posession ? I do a lot of driving and spot a fair few, but would be nervous about keeping a suitable knife in the car to use!!
Dunkield
Not as nervous as I would be next to busy main road cutting the head off a deer. "Ello ello ello, what's going on here then?" "Well officer let me explain, but before I start do you have any idea how much these things fetch on ebay?..."

Uncomfortable yes, a serious problem, no

You could keep a saw..... But then again we are all now going to get prepared to cut the head off a roadkill gold medal roe Dib Dib springs to mind
pegasus bridge
The meat cleaver? Oh yes officer, that's in case I should find a road kill deer with an impressive set of undamaged antlers 🙈 Edit-one way around it might be one of those wire saws , I'm guessing it would be up to the job 😲 Edited March 31, 2014 by pegasus bridge
Dunkield
It's OK folks I just drove past and the whole deer has gone. Presumably dusted down a little and hanging up in some unsuspecting game dealers larder
alexl
What is the best method of dispatch if you maim a deer in the car? I hit a deer a couple of months ago, and fortunately it seems he got of lightly after hitting the curved section on the front of my bumper and sliding partially down the side of the car, i think this meant there wasnt much of a 'hard' impact. I caught it in my torch light running across a field and had caught up with his chums and didnt appear to be limping in any way, so hopefully he was ok. It did make me think about how i would dispatch if i did injure one badly enough in the future (hopefully not) i carry 4x D maglite in my car, at the time i thought this was the best method? otherwayup
Why didn't you take it? The eye looks moist and not all dried up.
JDog
That is a very fine head indeed. If it is not too late go back and get it. If nothing else it may serve as a benchmark if you shoot roe buck in the future.
BRNDL
Would it be ok to butcher after this impact?
bicykillgaz
Thought this was one of them road kill on the bike thread again, mind you it was funny but can't remember what he did with it when he got it home. i would of been all over that bad boy too! i ended up throwing the first one as the general consensus was that it was unsafe not knowing how it had died car/vet etc Not as nervous as I would be next to busy main road cutting the head off a deer. "Ello ello ello, what's going on here then?" "Well officer let me explain, but before I start do you have any idea how much these things fetch on ebay?..." i was the same when i found that one i did so i just dragged it through the nearest hedge and got on with it.
