diddy
sorry for a daft question but im applying for my firearms ticket and doing some research ive established I will out down for a 22 lr 17hmr and a 243 for rabbits/fox control and aolg. my querry is whats the difference between open and closed ticket? I believe that any land you shoot needs to be cleared for any given calibre, does closed mean you can only shoot on your land that you have a perm for that is cleared and open means you can shoot on a friends permission with him given that its also cleared? Dekers
VERY SIMPLY Closed...you can only shoot on Police cleared land. Open...you can shoot on any land you have permission to shoot on, cleared or not. Nothing to do with friends land as such! diddy
great thanks dekers I can assume if granted mine it will be closed? I take it it will be a good idea to ask what land has been cleared locally?

No gain permission first then ask if its cleared, if not ask them to clear it. For one thing there will normally be a lot of it

kent
if they all have open tickets then it might not be passed so you need to check, its a 5 min phone call to firearms licencing.

I wish that was the case, I'm in Cheshire and want some land checked in Wales. They wanted the permission in writing and the lands proper name before they would even consider checking it. Keep hearing how all people need to do is phone up and ask but I've not found it to be true, even if the land is in my own county
Dekers
yes I have permission and the farmer has told me that shooters use hmr on there As already mentioned, just because someone uses even for example a .308, it doesn't mean the land it cleared, they may have an Open FAC, you need to be sure! ian g
under which circumstances could someone be granted an open ticket? is it a case of experience or good reason? both mate iv only had cf for 6-7 months and just had it opened up I provided a lot of evidence though
GHE
Some police farces give an open certificate first time of asking, most don't. Last time I checked, West Yorkshire, which is my own force area, will change the certificate to open ON REQUEST after 18 months experience OF THAT CALIBRE. I echo what other people have said about checking that the land has been cleared. Even if the farmer tells you that the land has been cleared for the calibre you intend to use, there's a risk that he may have got it wrong. And if he has, and you get caught shooting on it, you'll be in real trouble.

superspark
Does anyone know the waiting time for devon and cornwall for a fac application to go through. Just wondering as I applied two weeks ago. Wondering when I might hear something about the home visit.

West Mids tried to tell me in had to provide them written permission for their file which I knew to be untrue and spoke with BASC firearms team who confirmed that this is not a legal requirement. Wondering when I might hear something about the home visit. Just under a year ago mine took 4weeks from sending application to receiving license. They just turned around my variation in 3 days so you should hear from your FEO in around a weeks time......ish.
