kev56
Just bought a 12g greener gp, totally off the cuff, really good condition and nice wood. I'm not intending to do a full strip down yet, but would like to have a look down the barrels and give it a clean. Anyone tell me or point me in the right direction on how to remove the barrel. Only had it for a couple of hours but love it, can't believe how good it is for the princely sum of £100 Any info would be appreciated
turbo33
Crickey, that takes me back.....had one for my tenth xmas present, 21 guineas!!! To take the barrel off, from memory, drop the under lever down and keep the pressure on to the max ( 2nd pressure), and at the same time firm hold on the forend and unscrew anticlockwise (butt facing you and muzzle away). Let me know how you get on, I would be really interested.....a pic would be nice too

theshootist
Make sure you remove the take-down screw with a coin before twisting off the barrel!

Yup, mine too Never quite got the knack to eject the spent cartridge with the martini action though And that safety, was as big as a gate bolt The barrel seemed really long too, mine you I was a whipper snapper then How long is the barrel? turbo33
Best guess, barrel is 30inch Thought it was blooming long I used to get arm ache trying to stop the muzzle dragging along the ground, whilst trying to emulate a country gent with a s/s over his forearm
kev56
Make sure you remove the take-down screw with a coin before twisting off the barrel! I'm assuming the take down screw is the slotted one on the lower front, left hand side of the receiver. Tried a coin seems very tight, maybe i need a 1foot diam. coin. Just looked up date and appears to have been made in 1962, it doesn't look a year old though.
Underdog
If you want to look inside the barrel open the action and put a strip of white paper on the breech block, now shine a torch on the white paper and you view from the muzzle. Might be a fiddle being so long so consider how I do it with muzzle loaders....get a tiny torch and drop it down the barrel to the breech and view from the muzzle. I use a mini mag torch that uses a single AAA battery. U.
turbo33
Make sure you remove the take-down screw with a coin before twisting off the barrel! Doh, forgot about that coach bolt Its all coming back now........was 45years ago
browning123
Loosen the large slotted head bolt on the left side of the receiver, you don't have to remove the bolt just loosen it. Then the barrel unscrews from the receiver.

browning123
Iv'e got a multi choke one of these, its been in the cabinet for about 8 yrs. Is it a vari choke? You twist it to change the choke settings.
samboy
Its a screw in choke and the other one is screwed into the fore end. So it has 2 chokes.
LeadWasp
+1 on the take down screw comments before trying to unscrew the barrel. Cartridge ejection issues can be down to the size (length) of the cartridge. A few brands will have to be tried of 2.5" to find one it 'likes'. I clean mine with a bore snake rather than taking the barrel off. These guns are increasingly popular with Americans $$. If it's in good condition you got bargain. I love mine - partly because it was my (now deceased) uncle's gun and he got me into game shooting - but also the fab Martini action...everything from little .22's upwards. I shoot mine whenever I can in preference to a OU. Love it.
SHOOTEMUP
Everyone should have one of these at some time in their lives or they have never lived
Gunman
Funny story. , A sales man reckoned he sold loads of these GPs to Arab Princes . What you say multi millionaire Saudis ? Yes apparently they go off into the desert to commune with their Arab roots , so the stick one of these into the sand and tie the camel to it . That works we ask ? Oh yes what self respecting camel would be seen wandering around the desert dragging one of those .
