Not a pigeon in sight.

In the dry I thought that I would go and look at the spring rape which I shot in the wet last Friday. There were no birds moving so I went home disappointed.

A call from a friend perked me up somewhat. He told me that the farm had tipped out some barley from the grain store floor and that there were a few corvids getting on it. Did I fancy a quick go at them? Twenty minutes later I was there watching Jackdaws piling in.

We set up behind two elder bushes thirty metres apart and put out fifteen decoys. Jackdaws came in straight away followed by the more cautious carrion crows. We shot for an hour and a half until we were rained off and picked 33 Jackdaws, 2 Rooks and 3 Carrion Crows.

On a slightly facetious note, my companion had one of those guns like stevo the corvid shooter whose excellent videos are a sight for sore eyes. He shot a triple of jackdaws at one stage which was impressive. It would appear that all that needs to be done with those guns is to fire them into the air and something falls out of the sky. I must get one.

Good shooting! Is that quiet time of year now for pigeons but won't be long and it will be harvest! I got pigs on the farm I shoot they really draw the black in! I must have a session as there is rather a lot on there now especially as the rooks have fledged! Could be fun!
