Pigeon Shooting BAN

Help

A few hours ago I had a telephone call from our shoot secetary. and gamekeeper, informing me that there was a national ban on pigeon shooting effective immediateley. My response was ********.

I have since visited the BASC web site, DEFRA website, and spoken to DEFRA, who simply refered me to the general license.

So, my own research supports my origional observation of ********. but can anyone shed any light on how or where our sec may have got his information from?? If it helps, he is a small scale turkey farmer!!

Webber

ive heard nothing and if DEFRA are not confirming it then it could be your sec is losing his marbles after all he was planning to shoot pheasant on the 2nd of Feb, maybe an escorted trip to the local mental hospital is required.

There is still a 6 mile exclusion farce , er sorry zone, around the Matthews turkey farm, but that did'nt stop more processed foreign poultry being imported into the area and of course all the 260,000 slaughtered turkeys being (exported) driven 100miles to Stafford for rendering down!!!

Other local poultry breeders still have their birds outside and are being told noffing!!!!!

I’m reliably told that the Bernard Matthews Company turns over some £400 million a year. That’s one hell of a lot of turkeys and whoever’s eating all that **** should be ashamed of themselves. No wonder we get disease problems in farming! Join the Campaign for Real Food not cardboard cut out stuff.

Read the BASC website today "Avian Flu update" 9th Feb 07, and it's saying that Shotgun, air rifle, Rifle shooting is banned within the area, but that Clay shooting is still ok as is the shooting of Vermin causing agricultural damage, but you need to phone the area officer, based in Bury St Edmunds :o to gain a dispensation license to carry this out showing just reason to do so. It seems they don't want to encourage birds within the area to move outside of the zone and those outside to temporarily move in and then transmit once leaving.

Didn't realise we had air traffic controllers on Pigeons etc and exclusion zone air border patrols :)
