TR1
I am considering a 28 bore for decoying . Can anyone advise on the noise level from a standard load cartridge compared to a 12 bore. I am really looking for a low noise alternative without going the Hushpower route.
pontbeck
Almost indiscernible to a twelve, great guns ,as I use one for game, but they are not quiet Edited June 4, 2014 by pontbeck
dougall
only marginally less in my view...28/20/16/12 all v similar. only notice lower report at over 50 yards from .410s.......from 3/400 yards away 28g+ all sound @ same...so its 410 or hushpower if you want to make noticeably less noise Im afraid. Underdog
Yes. Or closer to a 20g in noise than 410. A shotgun being naturally quiet is alway going to be near impossible. What is the issue?
ChrisAsh
It does depend a lot on the load, my friend has home-loads of 28 gauge which you would be hard to hear from 30-40 metres
TR1
Thanks for input . Underdog the issue is pea field next to rearing field and prevailing wind carrying report.
Underdog
Pheasant rearing? It wont trouble them mate. I use to shoot blacks nicking eggs from an avery all the time. Pheasants ignored me.
figgy
Use subsonic 12bore loads this will be a lot quieter. Figgy

Last year we had hundreds of jackdaws raiding our pheasant feeders, and I would regularly shoot them in the trees up above our pens. After the first couple of shots the poults pretty much ignored me. Guest cookoff013
Use subsonic 12bore loads this will be a lot quieter. Figgy Can't argue with that clear logic +
