darren m
got a trooper 3.1 i,ve got a noise that only appears when the engine is fully warmed up like a tock rather than a tap. you can hear it at tickover when stationary when warm , but its also there and louder when driven , and seems to follow the revs up and down you can hear it change tone as you go on and off the accelerator as you change through the gears . its definately engine as it does it when stationary as well as i said its not there when engine cold or first driven until temp gauge goes up to normal position then it starts to appear any ideas thanks Edited June 10, 2014 by darren m
Lord Geordie
What you describe sounds like the onset of big end bearing failure to me! May be the shells need replaced! Could also be a bit of piston slap, depending on mileage! Normally a Tock or Knock is bottom end! Ticking is normally top end or piston rings. Sometimes Ticking can be a blown exhaust manifold gasket! Edited June 10, 2014 by Lord Geordie
ditchman
might be an injector................
la bala
Try cracking injectors one by one, it should tell you which cylinder, then go from there. could even be a diesel knock.
Paul223
Has it had an oil change, and is the oil the correct spec
kent
Difficult without hearing it but as you suggest when its warm I should go with bottom end wear on the bearings. Reason it is more apparent when warm is the oil heat up and thins out. Get it listened to by a good mechanic!
