henry d
OK, I made a boob. I changed scopes from a Meopta (56mm lens) to a Nightforce (50mm) and the optilocks I had were too high. I measured several times and thought I got it right, but on putting the new rings onto the bases and fitting the scope I find that the scope is only just touching :( Could I shim the bottom (or all round) of the ring with some aluminium foil, or should I put it between the base and the bottom of the ring legs? Or should I go back to the shop and look stupid?
wymberley
The possibility of looking a bit of a Wally for a few seconds, soon forgotten, is a small price to pay for getting it right.

kent
At over a K for a NF I think I should not wish to damage the tube in any way, with proper Shims even on both front and rear under Remington style action mounts I should still check alignment. Indeed forget that looking at the costs of a new NF now I should align my mounts totally perfectly regardless even lapping some in!
Hamster
Shimming is a minor trick to alter POI where either the scope has run out of adjustment or to combat excessive barrel droop as was common with some rifles. You need different mounts surely ?
henry d
Don't call me Shirley! And yes, new mounts
spandit
I've had to shim my new scope at the back (insulating tape) as it was out of adjustment. Never had so much trouble zeroing a scope but think it's done now...
