deadeye ive
Nice looking rifle Daz .........hope it brings you hours of pleasure Kirky looks like at long last and several months of trying you've managed to get some bites ................................................................................ .................................................................. If your looking for a high humane kill ratio the .17 hmr is certainly not a Fox calibre
dazzyboi
Spoke to target sports and they said that they have had the same question pop up before..he then said i wouldnt get away with medium mounts on a 50mm lens.. JohnGalway
Ive, Kirky is being very forward thinking about all this. He's moved the debate on from a .22lr isn't a fox calibre to a .17hmr isn't a fox calibre. Can't stop progress, the genie has been well and truly let out of the bottle
Hunter
Agreed, Kirky is just trying to start an argument for his amusement
al4x
Spoke to target sports and they said that they have had the same question pop up before..he then said i wouldnt get away with medium mounts on a 50mm lens.. I've got a CZ varmint and I've got medium mounts with a 50mm scope, though I must confess to having a sliver of aluminium foil under the slope to increase clearance, as your barrel will be a smaller diameter you should be fine. Oh and I'm with Kirly I wouldn't want to stand 300 yards in front of one, as for shooting foxes at 200 yards well the amount of energy in the bullet isn't that much different to a .22lr at 50 yards which most people would think is fine Not that I'd advise it at all its just another way of looking at it
Peter_HMR
The .17 has got the same energy at around 90yards as the muzzle energy of the .22lr.
njc110381
A good answer to the arguement is clean kill to shots ratio. If you're knocking them down cleanly it's no problem. If you're not, then don't do it again. Simple

Hunter
Kirky, if you mean the range finder on your scope, yes it may very well say that as they are never accurate. Get a laser range finder for accurate range finding I seriously doubt you could shoot an HMR to that range consistantly enough to justify shooting foxes with it. It would take PERFECT windless conditions, a very expensive scope, range finder, and bucket loads of practice to do so. Comments such as fox at 296yards with an HMR is just asking for trouble. The only person you are fibbing is yourself
dazzyboi
Well scope hasnt turned up yet, although its on its way..so i went down the club today to have ago and i took the crappy scope of the air rifle i got. wow. Im so impressed with the gun! its so comfortable to shoot with, and although people say without a mod its loud, it didnt sound loud compared to some of the .308's that were being fired next to me! Only had 20-30 shots..Layed down about 10-15 clays 100 yards away, put the scope on and began a quick zero session to atleast get it on target to a clay. Managed to do this after about 6-7 shots and away i went. Cant wait to get down there again.

Dazzyboi, the .17HMR is a cracking round that you'll enjoy alot.
