Hi all,

Looking at buying a nissan quashqai. The one I want retails at around the 25-26k mark.

Iv found the exact one I want, on a 63 plate (registered 14) with 9000 miles on the clock and he is asking £21k for it.

The question is how far do I go in regards to knocking him down so to speak? I will be part financing the car so i can't tempt him with a big wad of cash either.

Thanks

You had a test drive yet? I can't get away with them. I get a feeling of claustrophobia "spelling". The drivers position is encroached by the centre console, the door and the dash seems to come right back too. The roof lining isn't a lot better either. I find it the most uncomfortable drive I have ever been in. So much so I refuse to drive my dads! Even though I am the registered driver, incase they need to get out! I just use my car instead.

As for price? I can't comment, as I am a cheap skate

An unknown, depends on his SIV "stand in value" and how quick they think they can move it at that price. Best advice I can give is walk away when they say NO and be polite about it, then come back in and work upwards in tiny steps (they might say no but only a fool or newbie will let you walk out on a doable deal). Selling price doesn't relate to anything other than SIV + and PX value is always mythical clients just wont except a cars true worth " for blood" as the saying goes

I would personly see what the sales person says is the bottomline with yours px'd then knock a big wad off that and start there. I would see how much I could borrow for elsewhere as finance is sometimes not a great deal compared to a personal loan and at the moment its fairly cheap to borrow money. That way you could still go with a pocket of cash, not sure if dealerships care about cash these days (its expensive to pay in) they want to sell you the finance. If its a small garage then cash can still be king.

Just ask but without being silly, "can i have 30% off please" will probably elicit a laugh and will not be taken seriously.

Start at 10 % and see if that gets you anywhere. If the answer is no, just ask how much he will discount it by.

First rule of sales, if you don't ask, you don't get.

As said before it depends on how much over allowance they have put on your px .ie profit from qashqai to sweeten your px price. Try and look at the price to change figure. Ie just how much it's going to cost you. Don't be tempted by a supaguard or a similar product as it's overpriced rubbish just get a kit for £10 off the bay and do it yourself. If your taking finance think about getting gap insurance can be some good deals around. And as for the finance try and ask for lower that 5% flat rate is. Just ask the business manager when talking finance.

I would bid him £18,000 for the car .He has probably got £3,000 mark up on the car . He won't accept that price but it's a ball park figure to start negotiations. I am amazed at how people will put their hands up and pay what dealers ask for new and used cars . Never pay the screen price allways negotiate a cheaper price . He will try and screw you on your part exchange and will make money out of you two ways . If you carnt get the price down then leave him your phone number and walk away . Bet you get a call before you get home . If you are going to take finance out on the car then hit him on the head with a big stick for a cheaper finance deal .

Yes iv test drove one and loved it. Roof lining? It's a panoramic sun roof. It's the brand new shape one and it's the tekna so top spec too.

Don't fall in love with it until you have hit them with a big stick on top of the head . Their are many ,many more out there to look at . If you were buying in norfolk I would come along with you , I love dealing with car salesmen . Oh ,what ever he offers you for your trade in , ask for another £1 ,000 .
