shocked by response from MP

The MP concerned may have signed the letter but quite often an MP's paid lackeys will draft it, shove it under his/her nose for signing and it gets posted with the MP not having even read the incoming correspondence let alone the response.

Some are very good constituency MPs and others couldn't give a stuff about what goes on in their constituency unless it results in good press coverage.

I'd be tempted to write a letter to your local paper outlining the fact that your MP appears to either have a beef (excuse the pun) with the farming and shooting community or he/she doesn't care enough to respond personally and allows his/her secretary/researchers to draft responses for signing without he/she reading the contents.

If the editor of the local paper already has it in for the MP concerned then your letter has a good chance of seeing the light of day and will hopefully put the cat among the pigeons, metaphorically speaking.

I no longer use my MP Nick Boles as my mouthpiece in Parliament as he chooses to only act as a messenger boy between myself and the government departments/agencies or organisations I have concerns about and will never ever express a personal view on those concerns for fear of jeopardising his career in government, I suspect.

At least Quentin (Davis) took his constituency duties seriously and despite his attempts at being the "toff" he listened and behaved as a good constituency MP should behave and not like the wannabe Bullingdon boy we had foisted on us .

Rant over. :)

I was sent an email from basc called BASC Action Alert which was basically to send to my local MP to tell him about the value of shooting,it was basically an automated form which would be sent to your local MP,s you just basically just put your name in it and the automated process did the rest,

I filled in the form as support and have received an email today to say the least shocked me to the response he gave me,

here is the response I have received from my MP,,,

Thanks for your e-mail and I apologise for the delay in replying.

I appreciate that shooting industry is a major part of the economy in parts of the country and also a traditional part of rural life and is significantly involved in managing rural areas. I do have some concerns about the industry, for example I understand that:

  • Laying hens on many farms are kept in intensive conditions, using the same type of small battery cage that has been made illegal for farmed chickens.
  • The 40% of pheasants and 90% of partridges that are imported to the UK from France, Spain and Portugal also suffer immensely during transport.
  • Gamekeepers snare, trap, poison and bludgeon tens of thousands of animals, including protected species and domestic pets, in an effort to protect game birds from natural predators.
I would be obliged for your comments on my concerns.

to say I was shocked by his reply is an understatement,,should I now let basc know of his reply as its pretty obvious to me he has a bee in his bonnet regarding shooting or should I just let him know how I feel about his reply,

cheers Evo

you could answer......

That generalisation is a dangerous thing! In the same way as he claims "gamekeepers snare, trap, poison and bludgeon tens of thousands of animals, including protected species and domestic pets" you too could generalise.......you could reply that MP's are corrupt and steal millions of pounds from the country by fiddling their expenses, are involved in illegal and immoral acts such as bribery and corruption and are paedophiles who sexually assault children!.......of course not all MP's act in this manner........but then again neither do all gamekeepers do as he claims!

What have his allegations regarding laying hens got to do with the value of shooting?

Where did he obtain the data/information regarding the importation of Gamebirds? and where did he get his evidence that they "suffer immensely during transport"? if he cannot provide impartial evidence to back up his claims, and had any integrity he would apologise and withdraw them!

+1 to send a copy of his response to BASC.
