Albert 888
After 4 new tyres for the disco, its mainly for road use but gets used and abused on green lanes once a week. Im running it on 205 70 16 wrangler at's at the mo,the old type, they arnt that good on or off road. Also im on a budget. So what do you guys recommend. Also I would like to go wider and maybe taller in tyre size.
sky gipsy
I ran insa turbo sarahas on my series for years and found them very good for a budget re-mould (now about £70 a corner). I am presently running general grabber AT on my range rover (about £85 a corner) and think they are excelent. You could try 235/70/16 to get a little more width & height. secret-squirrel
I ran 235 70 16///28"tyre (standard disco size ) insa turbo saharahs when my disco was stock . I used then for 40 mile a day commute and used them for serious off Roading .they Arnt that noisy on the road and are IMO great off road! Only problem if your disco is standard like mine was . Your arches will chew the last set of lugs on the outer edge of the tyre ! When you go round a corner in a rut . Only other option is do 4" suspention lift and get 235 85 16//32" tyres like I have now extra 2" lift under the diff. I struggle to get stuck now
Albert 888
Cheers guys, its 2" lifted on medium springs and longer shocks front endcaps are cut and oower valance is removed, I have grinders drills and a jigsaw so removing some of the rear arch wont be a problem. Anyone used kingpin 235 85 16.
darren m
ditto - i like the look of king pin muds , same as bfg pattern. if anyone knows what they are like on and off road i had kingpin technic traker 11's on my trooper and for a A/T tyre are brill , bit noisey but ok on road . where are you thinking of getting them from . Albert 888
Not sure yet cant seem to find any realy good deals, and then do I go for steel modular type rims as the 5 spoke alloys et is to far into the wings. I did want some boost alloys with the defender offset. Got to many choices.
seph234
235 85 16 sit lovely on the disco. a camel cut on the rear quarter will be needed to stop the tyre catching on full articulation. when i had my disco i had 265 75 16 bf muds its just a case of keep trimming until your happy on clearance. i had a 2" lift and a 1" body lift. Alycidon
Grabber AT2s, not cheap but as long as you dont puncture them they will last over 100,000 miles. Nice and quiet on road and fairly capable off it. A
Albert 888
Ok chaps,i hsve sorced some steel rims with 08 et offset compared to my disco alloys with a 33 et. So they will suit better. The tires I have narrowed it down to are Maxxis 235 70 16 at 771 x 4 £329 Cooper 245 75 16 at3 x 4. £379 Cooper 235 70 16 ar3 x 4. £359 Event ml 235 70 16 or 245 x4 £294 Im leaning towards the at3 in 245 75 16 as I will get more ground clearance Which do you guys think or have any knowledge of. Albert 888
Woop woop I went for the cooper discover at3 265 75 16 in the end, with my 2"spring lift and a bit of grinding to remove bits of arch and end caps they fit a treat and don't stick out to far or need the steering stops altering as the landrover modular rims had a better offset. Thanks for the info, will post back after weekend on how good or not good they are after going offloading on a pay and play sand quarry.
