Scully
Took a gun to an old boy who does my woodwork. He mentioned losing his dealers (?) license due to the fact that all transactions etc have to now be done on computer. Is this right? Seems a shame if true. He is 80+ and says he is too old to become computer literate.
Jim_gsxr1000
I think this could be true, I'm sure it's changing towards the end of this year, all records have to be logged electronically !

Gonk
Shame that, can't anyone help him out with the computer skills? Maybe in exchange for work done? Just a thought

Just a thought This has occurred to me. Will mention it to him when I pick up gun. I wouldn't mind helping but it all depends how much work is involved. Yep all RFDs have to go computerised, (EU controls on firearms) but if he only does wood and has an SGC he can still do the wood just has to tell you take the rest of the SGC home. More difficult with rifles though Edited September 6, 2014 by HDAV
Scully
Hey a man has to retire at some age, perhaps its just the handy excuse he needs and I cant say I blame him at that age I can't either, but he doesn't want to retire, he loves the job. He still picks up on a local shoot also. Yep all RFDs have to go computerised, (EU controls on firearms) but if he only does wood and has an SGC he can still do the wood just has to tell you take the rest of the SGC home. More difficult with rifles though I think this is what he is pondering as he told me to take the barrels home. He doesn't even need the complete gun anyhow to continue doing the woodwork, and like you say, if he has SGC he should be ok so long as he sticks to shotguns only.....I think. HDAV
He can have the complete gun for 72hours.... Edited September 6, 2014 by HDAV
Scully
He can have the complete gun for 72hours.... Very true, but he once had one of my guns for over a week. I'm assuming he'd be ok with the fore-end, but would he need to remove the stock from the mechanism and give this back to the owner if it was to take him longer than 72 hours? HDAV
Tricky one to be honest the action is no use without barrels unlike section 1 the components aren't controlled iirc just a bit of bent or machines metal... He would probably need to run it by FLO but certainly no issue with him having the wood or or forend with iron AFAIK, not sure how it works with "out workers " if they need an RFD as well, after all RFD staff don't

Hadn't thought of that. Ta very much.
parapilot
He could just put every gun over 72 hrs on and off his ticket. I'm sure the police would soon come to some sort of agreement!!!!
welshwarrior
It's not a lot of work can be as simple as a spread sheet version of his pen log.

HDAV
I did read up on it, can't remember what the minim requirements were. I did WI see if taking a digital photo of the book every day would count.... it's electronic.... No reason he can't use a book and then type it in once a day/week etc
