FREELANDER 2 - DIFF OR WHEEL BEARING :-(

Well I had the car serviced three months avon and it passed its MOT last month but for the last six weeks there has been a noise from the rear which has baffled me. When I had the MOT done I was told it was the tyres so I had two new rear tyres put on - well they were low on tree anyway - but the noise did not go... it was better but still there. Back to the garage and the tyres were balanced again..... still the noise stayed.... back again until Bob was flummoxed and sais he would book it into a transmission specialist as it was not the wheels or tyres so must be the diff......

No..... I phoned around and GERMAN TECH CARS in Cambridge said they would have a look for a fews of £45... Marshall of Cambridge also said they would shave a look for a fee of £75 so it was a no brainer. Within 30 seconds the engineer looked at the car and the rear driver side wheel and proclaimed.... "you have the drumming sound from the rear which is like a droning sound..." he then took it for a test drive and confirmed it was no the diff but my wheel bearing.

The next day I got a quote from them for £501.96 to replace all the bits..... booked it in for last Tuesday and apart from some break pads which needed replacing they were true to their word... it cost me £501.96 + £40 for the break pads......

I was impressed. So if you live in Cambridge and need some work doing on the car and are like me incapable then give them a try......

I have had problems with the four wheel drive on my jeep not one of the newer type ones with all of the electronics so why is it so hard to find a good garage that can just tell me what the problem is transfer case front diff wheel bearings etc etc I gave up in the end and took the front drive shaft off not good but I refuse to throw money at it when I do not now if it will sort the problem.
