pegasus bridge
I collect old bottles, amassed most of my collection as a youth digging old tip sites, looking back it was quite unusual for a teenage lad!
Scully
........the ink pots must be 17th cent...i will take a couple of pics and post them up......... Yes please, post pic's. I have one and would be interested to see if it's the same. As kids we used to ranch about on the council tip, and I took all sorts of things home. There was also another tip about half a mile away, dating back to Victorian times (still there actually but well covered now) and I often dug up old bottles and jars etc.
ditchman
i will post a few pics later....some of the pots are chamfered on the bottom edge so you can get the last of the ink out with the quill.......

39TDS
Very nice. I have a few myself knocking about the place that I had forgotten about. The pics jogged my memory. Got one somewhere that is house shaped with a chimney as the neck of the bottle. All dug up at work by chance.
ditchman
going on the websites.......in america some of them...the theme type..houses with a chimney are worth $70-80.........the ones i have are mostly 18th cent with a few 17th cent...and go for anywhere....$5-$36..each.....the more collectable are the bigger stoneware type and the ones that have a moulding on them to lay you quill on.... Scully
Thankyou. Yes it is rather nice. This view is slightly out of focus I'm afraid. I have no idea where it came from but remember it in my parents home as a kid.
ditchman
i can just imajine an 18cent country parson dipping into it to pen his sermon.........whereas mine would be used by someone wearing fingerless gloves...cold and thin...scratching away with a quill..in a profit and loss ledger overlooking the docks......
