billytheghillie
when fitting mounts to rifle, and mounting the scope, does anybody use thread lock like Loctite? thanks
welshwarrior
Yes I use thread lock blue on all the screws easy to remove with tools but doesn't rattle loose.
Dekers
I never have and I've never had a problem that I can recall. Actually I tend to use Vaseline on all the threads and heads, always have, may help with damp/rust, (not sure if I'm fooling myself but always seems to have served me well) whilst I do obviously change scopes/mounts from time to time mine tend to go on and stay on. There are various types of thread lock and why not if you want to, just be carful with some as they can almost weld the thread in place! wymberley
Yep, just make sure that it's thread lock and not stud lock.
Bewsher500
never needed them well designed mounts with decent quality screws/bolts should never rattle loose I also oil all screws it not only stops them rusting if water tracks in it is also standard practice to ensure the torque setting is real and tension based rather than being distorted by high friction between threads. (allow the screws to rotate and the torque is down to a stretch in the screw, if they stick you are measuring torsional stress in the screw.....and will rip its head off!)
