Sussexboy
Hi All, I lose my company car after 24 years at the end of December as I have now got a job where the pay is better and I don't have to visit external customers. So the beloved A4 will be no more. Tried a C Class for the last 5 days, don't like it. So, on Thursday I am going to look at a 2008 BMW 320D Coupe. Anything I should be wary of?? Thanks. twitchynik
N47 engine is known to eat timing chains. More common in manual than auto.
twitchynik
If it is an ED model with stop/start then battery needs to be in tip top condition for this to work. If not then the stop/start function will not work. Not a biggie but might explain if it's not working. Coupe door windows will prob be whistling above 50ish. The rubbers can be padded out to help. CBS so have a click through the servicing items in the OBC. Ignition on but don't start. Use the FUNC button to cycle through and see when next service is as well as brake fluid and pad life. Sussexboy
I'll know more when I see it. According to the ad it is a 2008 SE model with auto box, 48000 miles. Looks immaculate in the photos but they always do.

Rupert
I am running a 07 coupe at the minute,a 330d. they are fine motors but the doors are massive and need loads of room in carparks boot is a poor shape and access is not great, back seats are a bit low for adults,i think the image is a bit "fake blonde and oversize sunglasses. It is also a fine, comfortable and frugal mile muncher that is currently racking up 800 a week at very high fourties/low fifties mpg.service with an indie is reasonable. If it were a saloon or touring it would be a keeper. casts_by_fly
Great for 2 people and daily drives. Not great for 4 and a weekend trip. As noted, the boot is small and the back seats aren't great for adults or longer rides. My mate has a 335i and loves it. I would drive it, but I fit in the 2 people and daily drive bracket. Thanks Rick
Sussexboy
Thanks for the comments. We are only looking for a car for the two of us really. Both girls are adults and doing there own thing (mostly). I shall have a look with a suspicious eye and check the service history for any timing chain issues. There is a couple of auto touring there as well, but they are of the same vintage, with higher miles and lower spec.
Fisheruk
More importantly, can you get your shooting gear in it.
Sussexboy
More importantly, can you get your shooting gear in it. We have a Shogun Sport for that
69chris
if its even remotely like any other bmw iv ever mot'd then the rear brake pipes WILL rot sooner rather than later so if its a keeper then thats something else worth bearing in mind
Sussexboy
After doing some more research today I have decided not to bother. I'm not that much of a gambler.
Mentalmac
Sounds mad, but if you are used to company cars (Which I was for years until now, then bought a car and since realised how many issues crop up with cars) why not g et a nice lease car? You have a shogun sport for the mud and shooting gear, and then get a lease car where you get a nice brand new car which is less likely to go wrong in the first few years. Sussexboy
Doesn't sound mad at all, that is indeed the way I am starting to think. It is just the idea of not owning something after paying out all the money every month that puts me off. I don't know why, given all the tax I pay every month for the company car. keg
I have a 60 plate 320d estate with an auto box ( or touring as they like to call them. bought it last day of May 2013, all fine until coming across the Severn bridge last week. Car just died, turns out a clip had broken on the fuel pipe to the pump. Thank god for warranties, after sales service was superb.Turbos were an issue on the E46 models but not aware of any issues with the current ones. Fresh oil and let the turbo simmer after a long journey extends its life. I love it. If it wasn't down to economics i would have teh 330. I don't lease because it's never yours.....
